Dear MDAnalysis Team,

My name is Ladan David John Burman, currently  a graduate of biochemistry (Honours). I am writing to express my keen interest in participating in the Google Summer of Code (GSoC) program with MDAnalysis in 2024.

I have a keen interest to pursue a graduate degree in Bioinformatics and Computational biology. I follow MDAnalysis on Facebook and I feel it will offer me a great learning experience and also opportunity to contribute as I am already on a self taught journey on python language and also JavaScript.

After thoroughly reviewing the detailed information provided on your GSoC 2023 page, I am captivated by the exciting opportunities your organization offers for contributors interested in molecular dynamics simulations and related analyses. The outlined projects, coupled with the prospect of mentorship and a collaborative environment, align perfectly with my passion for coding and my interest in this field.

While I am aware that participation in GSoC is not guaranteed, I am enthusiastic about learning and contributing to MDAnalysis, regardless of the outcome. I am committed to immersing myself in the MDAnalysis community, understanding its dynamics, and actively participating in discussions and development processes.

I firmly believe that contributing outside of GSoC 2024 will not only enhance my skills but also enable me to make meaningful contributions to the MDAnalysis project. I am prepared to familiarize myself with your codebase, address existing issues, and contribute to enhancing documentation or writing tests as needed.

I am eager to embark on this exciting journey with MDAnalysis.

Best regards,

David

Hi David,
I noticed that part of your e-mail (Dec 21, 2023, 6:44:39 PM) is copied verbatim from the e-mail of Joshua Varghese (Dec 1, 2023, 4:53:15 PM) [https://groups.google.com/a/mdanalysis.org/g/gsoc/c/yCXnNPNOmV0/m/fh-0RRjIAAAJ].

This is a form of plagiarism and deceit. We do not tolerate such behavior in our community. Our Code of Conduct stipulates respectful behavior to each other https://www.mdanalysis.org/pages/conduct/ and using someone else's words and work without attribution is NOT respectful (it's also a major breach of ethics which is harshly punished in academia).
