McKinney STEAM Academy (MSA)Open Houses: Open Houses continue through the month of July! July 6th, 13th, 20th, and 27th - 4:00 - 6:00 PM Applications Open: FIRST LEGO League and FIRST Tech Challenge applications are now open. Details in their respective sections. FRC applications coming soon. The McKinney STEAM Academy is 100% volunteer run. To ensure that we don’t have to turn anyone away, we’re looking for additional volunteers to coach FLL and FTC. You’ll have the full support of the MSA. Please contact Charlie Goodman if you are interested. FIRST ROBOTICS COMPETITION (FRC)TRI Wrap up - Our students did great at TRI! As an off-season event, we got to run three different drive teams this weekend. This gave several of our newer students the chance to get on the field in a new role in a competitive environment. Even with changing the drive team so frequently, we ended the weekend ranked 13 of 41 with 5 wins and 5 losses. We were the third pick of Alliance 2.  CAD Training - What an excellent turnout! Part 3 is Sat July 6. If your student wasn’t able to complete part one before the first in-person session make sure it’s done before July 6. We recognize several students will be out of town on this date. We will livestream the class for those who can attend virtually and record it for those who would like to watch it when they get back. Software Training - We’re looking at doing Module 1 and the first section of Module 2 on August 17 and the remainder of Module 2 on August 31. There will be a self paced portion in between these dates. Module 1 is designed for all FRC students and Module 2 is the continuation for those that would like to specialize in software. We will have a link in next week’s email with further details. SWENext - Our students are exploring starting our own Society of Women Engineers chapter. There will be an informational meeting open to all at the workshop on Tuesday July 2nd at 6pm. This is open to all students.
