Learn about Newest MUCC Prairie
Please join us on Sunday, Aug. 24, from 6:00-7:00 p.m., outside at the McFarland UCC prairie area, to hear about the newest prairie/native plant sections established on the grounds of MUCC. Heather Drake, Girl Scout and recent McFarland High School graduate, organized the
prairie project as part of her Girl Scout Gold Award. She created a project plan, designed the plots, procured native plant seeds, and planted the seeds last fall. Her two new plots are next to several smaller plots that we planted in 2020 and 2023. Heather’s plots include walking paths
and her project will greatly increase our original prairie/native plant area. The new area also enhances the natural beauty of McFarland UCC property (which includes the McFarland Community Garden).
Heather will give a short presentation about the importance of native plants. Refreshments will be provided, and she will be giving away some native seeds that we can plant in our own yards. Come and see how we’re helping to increase biodiversity and reduce global climate change.

Flooding in Wisconsin
The Wisconsin Conference UCC is responding to people and churches affected by the unprecedented rainfall between the evening of August 9 and the morning of August 10. In the aftermath, some UCC churches, as well as community members, have reported damage. One church sustained significant damage. Both the Conference and the Christmas Fund are providing emergency financial assistance.
To aid the wider community, 936 Church World Service cleanup bucket kits have been requested. The kits will be distributed to residents in partnership with the Salvation Army and Milwaukee County Emergency Management. A Conference-wide CWS kit-making drive will begin Sept. 28 -- one way to restock the supply of kits sent in our time of need.
As we learn more about how we can best support our communities, we may need additional supplies or volunteers. To provide immediate support, please consider donating to our established relief fund set up through the Conference.

Weekly Creation Care Topic
Reduce/Reuse/Recycle
This week’s tip: RECYCLE - To crush or not to crush cans, both aluminum and steel, and other seemingly little things that may doom your recyclables to the landfill. As with cartons, do NOT crush cans as the sorting machine in the recycling center uses shape to shoot items to the right area. It will not recognize crushed cans, so they will end up not being recycled. Make sure to wash food out of cans, and while you do not need to remove paper labels, do remove any plastic. Metal can be recycled endlessly when we all do our part to help out.
