Neighbors in Need Collection
THIS Sunday - October 5, 2025
Rarely have I seen a church without some form of ministry that helps feed people. From community meals to food pantries, churches across the country make sure people have enough to eat. But I always wondered, wouldn’t it be better if none of these services had to exist. What if everyone simply had enough to eat?
Our churches share compassion by not only providing for the basic needs of our neighbors but also asking deeper questions of why these inequalities exist in the first place. Our immediate call to alleviate the suffering of those around us is paired with a prophetic witness calling for systemic reform.
All congregations in the United Church of Christ are invited to take part in the Neighbors in Need offering to address just this. Two-thirds of the offering supports justice and witness ministries of the United Church of Christ, with one-third of the offering given to the Council for American Indian Ministries (CAIM). Your gifts directly fund the Neighbors in Need grant program. This grant, for UCC congregations and partners, offers funding for both direct service and advocacy projects.
Thank you for your generosity!
The Rev. Rachel McDonald works for the National Ministries of the UCC as Generosity Officer, OCWM, and Special Mission Offerings. The four Special Mission Offerings of the United Church of Christ are One Great Hour of Sharing, Strengthen the Church, Neighbors in Need, and the Christmas Fund. Together, they demonstrate a commitment to building a just world for all. To learn more, click here.

One-third of NIN funds support the Council for American Indian Ministry (CAIM). The other two-thirds of the offering support a variety of justice initiatives, advocacy efforts, direct service projects, and grants. Neighbors in Need grants are annually awarded to UCC churches and organizations doing justice work in their communities. | | |

Weekly Creation Care Topic
Reduce/Reuse/Recycle
This week’s tip: Hispanic Heritage Month - Climate change endangers people all over the world from all walks of life, but black, brown, and Indigenous people are among those often harmed first and most severely due to the economic atmosphere. According to 2021 data from the Pew Research Center, 56% of U.S. Hispanics live in areas that have experienced an extreme weather event within the last year. The climate crisis is a civil rights crisis. This month is an opportunity to reflect on history and celebrate the role of Latinos in the United States for their contributions, particularly in the labor, environmental justice, and climate movements. Hispanic and Latino, Black, and Indigenous organizers continue to be at the forefront of progressive movements in the United States and have won victories — stronger unions, protections for workers, and safer and cleaner air, land, and water — that benefit all Americans. Dolores Huerta may be one of the better-known figures, but there are many whose work remains obscure and unrecognized. Click here to learn more.

Together, We Can Spark Wonder in 2025!
Rev. James Schleif, Executive Director of United Church Camps, Inc. (UCCI), sent an email this week asking for support of the UCC Outdoor Ministry, which includes the camps Moon Beach, Daycholah Center, and Cedar Valley. He wrote, "Together, we can strengthen UCCI’s legacy and build a future full of hope, possibility, and wonder."
A sustainable financial model for outdoor ministry requires that approximately 25% of the annual operating budget comes from unrestricted donations.
Support from the Wisconsin Conference UCC, local churches, and individual donors makes it all possible. Your generosity ensures UCCI can continue to spark wonder for years to come.
Your support helps:
- Offer vibrant, faith-filled programs
- Keep our facilities safe, welcoming, and well cared for
- Launch new retreats and outreach opportunities
- Provide scholarships so everyone can experience camp
| | |
Other ways you can get involved in the UCCI Outdoor Ministry:
- Come to camp with your family and send your kids to camp
- Schedule a church retreat for renewal, connection, and fun
- Invite us to lead a Camp Sunday to celebrate outdoor ministry together
- Join us for volunteer days to help with projects and meet others who love camp
