Native American Art Display
National Native American Heritage Month is celebrated each year in November. It is a time to celebrate the traditions, languages, and stories of Native American, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, and affiliated Island communities and ensure their rich histories and contributions continue to thrive with each passing generation.
Native American culture respects all creation. The respect includes love, humility, wisdom, honesty, truth, and bravery. In honor of Native American Heritage Month, posters reflecting these ideas are on the wall by the kitchen (Art Shegonee is in one).
Dawn and Art Shegonee also put together an additional display in the fellowship area showing a small part of their life's work. Art Shegonee is a member of the Menominee and Potawatomi Tribes of Wisconsin. He and his wife, Dawn, are both Global Artists, Activists, and Co-Founders since 1989, of the world-renowned Call for Peace Drum & Dance Company. They have been promoting cross-cultural understanding through performance art in the US and around the world.

SaLT Spot
Highlights from October 14, 2025 meeting:
- We were excited to hear that the Befrienders have someone available to provide appointment rides to those who need assistance in this way. If you need a ride, please let a Befriender know so they can connect you. (Look for the red Befrienders sticker on their nametag.)
- We spent time making the important decision of choosing those who will serve on the Settled Pastor Search Committee. We appreciate the willingness of so many to serve our congregation in this way.
- We discussed profiles of potential interim pastors and set a date for an interview.

Weekly Creation Care Topic
Reduce/Reuse/Recycle
This week’s tip: Reduce & Recycle: Does Count Dracula live in your home? Vampire devices are devices that consume energy when plugged in but not in use: TVs, coffee makers, laptop/phone chargers, and game consoles can add up to 5-10% of home energy use. The slow drain on energy can cost some homes up to $100-$200/yr; while it may be a relatively small amount/household, every electron saved is a reduction in greenhouse gas. Actions to take: unplug, use a power strip, and turn it off when not in use. Buy Energy Star appliances. (PBS News Oct 4, ‘25) Oh, and those deflating jack-o-lanterns and (unpainted) pumpkins: McFarland residents may drop them off at the village yard waste site (on the right side, NOT on the brush side), others can take them to a Dane Co food waste drop off site rather than putting them in the landfill. Go to landfill.danecounty.gov/compost to find a location and get the code to use the free food scrap drop-off site.
