Volunteers Are Our Stars

As we celebrate the Fourth of July and look up at the stars on our nation’s flag and the fireworks lighting up the summer sky, we are reminded of another group of stars who shine all year long—our volunteers. A BIG thank you to each and every one of you for the time, talents, and energy you share with our church.

Whether you greet people at the door, serve in a ministry, help at special events, or work quietly behind the scenes, your efforts make a tremendous difference. Every act of service helps our church shine brighter and creates a welcoming place where people can experience God’s love.

McFarland UCC is a church with heart, and that heart is reflected in our volunteers. Your kindness, compassion, and servant spirit are the heartbeat of our congregation. Together, you form a constellation of caring individuals whose gifts help our church grow, thrive, and serve others.

As we celebrate this season of faith, freedom, and community, please know how grateful we are for all that you do. Your contributions may not always be in the spotlight, but they never go unnoticed. Our volunteers are our stars, and because of you, our church continues to shine brightly for all to see.

Volunteers Needed for Loretta Martin Memorial Service July 11, 2026

Loretta “Lorry” Martin passed away June 13, 2026. There will be a visitation at McFarland UCC on Saturday, July 11, 9 am – 11 am followed by a memorial service at 11 am with a lunch after the service.

Loretta Martin Obituary

Lorry and her husband Jim were charter members of McFarland UCC. Jim and Lorry held an organizational meeting in the summer of 1976 at their home that eventually led to the official sanctioning of our congregation in December 1977. Jim Martin passed away in June 2025.

Volunteers are needed to assist with the lunch. Specifically, the Funeral Team is seeking volunteers to make salads or desserts or to help with food setup, serving, and cleanup. If you are available to assist, please contact Joan Jacobsen, jo...@mcfarlanducc.org or 608-669-7944.

Just a quick reminder that all are invited to the monthly SaLT meetings. July's agenda is available on the McFarland UCC website under News and then Servant and Leadership Team (SaLT) and with the link below.

New Committee Forming

A Technology Committee is being formed! The purpose of the committee is to provide guidance and information to SaLT, committees, teams, and individuals regarding information technology. Anyone with an interest or background in technology is welcome! You don't have to be an expert. Please contact Kathy Schwenn to learn more or volunteer.

Weekly Creation Care Topic

Reduce/Reuse/Recycle

July 3: Reduce Plastic use for Plastic Free July & Beyond:  Take the challenge - Plastic Free July®   “From festive get-togethers to parties, switching from balloons and other single-use plastic decorations and supplies to reusable alternatives means we can also celebrate our positive environmental impact.” Consider paper lanterns instead of balloons, paper or leaves for confetti, skip straws if you are able, use paper bags filled with treats from the bulk candy aisle, for a picnic: bring your own reusable plates, cups, napkins, and utensils (or provide them for others if hosting). “When many people make small changes, it adds up to a big difference in our communities. Choosing to refuse single-use plastics in July (and beyond!) often leads to discovering great alternatives that can become new habits forever.”

An Evening of Dances of Universal Peace

Join Robin and Michael for an evening of connection, community, and solace as they lead us in powerful healing prayers on Friday, July 10 at 6:30 pm at McFarland United Church of Christ!

The Dances of Universal Peace (DUP) are a spiritual practice in motion; they draw from sacred phrases, scripture, and poetry of the world's many traditions. The Dances blend chant, live music, and evocative movement into a living experience of unity, peace, and integration. This taste of our true nature opens the possibility of a deep spiritual revolution within each person.

We will join together in a circle, hand in hand, symbolizing the unity and interconnectedness of all people. The circle represents wholeness, equality, and harmony.

All are welcome! Come as you are. If you are physically limited, we welcome you as you are, and we accommodate you as needed. In this practice, there are no performers, no audience, and no experience necessary; as each dance is taught and guided.

This will be the last opportunity to be a part of the Dances at MUCC this year! We hope to see you there!
