Greetings MUCC’ers,
In February, I was elected Moderator of the Servant and Leadership Team (SaLT). I thought it important to make myself available to hear issues, discuss them, and offer feedback. To accomplish this, I hosted "Moderator Chats" at various locations and times. Although I wasn’t able to offer available times around the clock or venues all across the area, I hope I’ve reached those who wanted to share with me.
One of the areas I received feedback on is announcements, their length, and types thereof. Questions like “why do we have announcements?” to “ well, I didn’t know our church participated in…” to “must I hear about 'x and/or y' for 15 minutes when I am here to be in community and receive the spirit”.
I took this issue to SaLT, and we decided to make a statement before announcements to address these concerns. If you were not with us last week, the goals are:
- Shorten the overall announcement time.
- Announcements should be relevant to the ministries and life of the Congregation.
- Announcements should reflect last-minute changes from the previous Pulse publication.
Once again, I welcome constructive feedback on these changes and request that you share that constructive feedback with me in writing or outside the sanctuary after worship during fellowship time. My contact information is wa...@mcfarlanducc.org or 608-206-3588.

SaLT Spot
Here are a few highlights from the April 9, 2026 SaLT meeting:
- Approved the Retention Policy which establishes guidelines for the administration and storage of pertinent McFarland UCC info. and documents.
- Discussed the development of social media best practices so we can add value and measure success with its use.
- Considered ways to keep the congregation announcements to a reasonable time by encouraging brief announcements relevant to the next week.
- Shared feedback on Easter activities.
- Developed an outline for SaLT members to us when leading the morning welcome.

Weekly Creation Care Topic
Reduce/Reuse/Recycle
Earth Day - April 22. Earth Day is not just a celebration; it is a call. What can you do to help care for Creation? In McFarland, April 25, 8 am-noon is Community Service Day with several options to care for our village, including recycling E-waste and styrofoam at the Village Hall (that day only). After our storms, there will likely be even more help needed to clean up: parks, storm drains, or help neighbors in need. Get creative, talk about your plans to encourage others to join in. Then keep it up after the 25th. If you missed church 4/12 and heard about the cool video, here it is: "Friendly Guide to Climate Change.” Happy Earth Day!!
