Happy Birthday

In case you missed the August Birthday cake, here's a picture of it. Happy Birthday to those of you with birthdays in August!

Stuff the Bus

August 2-16 (17 at MUCC)

A donation box for 'Stuff the Bus' is in the church lobby, by the coat racks, for donations!

Stuff the Bus is an effort to help low-income families in the McFarland School District with the expenses of the new school year. After the campaign is complete, the children of families served by the McFarland Food Pantry (which serves the school district population) will go to the McFarland Food Pantry on August 18. A provided ‘school supplies list’ for their grade will aid them in ‘shopping’ after they pick out a backpack.

To donate, drop items in the donation box by the coat racks now through Sunday, August 17. Or drop them in the donation boxes at the village municipal center, the McFarland Library, McFarland Walgreens, or McFarland Pick 'N Save until August 16. Donations will be accepted at the McFarland High School (main entrance) between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 16.

To make a monetary donation via USPS, address the envelope to McFarland Community Food Pantry (specify 'Stuff the Bus' on the memo line of your check), PO Box 101, McFarland, WI 53558, or give your check to church member Judy Taber, manager of the food pantry! Or click here to donate online (using PayPal or Venmo), and specify 'Stuff the Bus' in a comment.

School supplies needed: Sturdy backpacks (grades 6-12); Kleenex; black Expo dry erase markers; spiral notebooks (college-ruled or wide-ruled, 1-subject); #2 wood pencils (preferably sharpened); binder dividers; white 1-inch 3-ring binders; yellow highlighters; Post-It notes; composition notebooks (wide-ruled); felt-tip pens; pocket calculators; and Ziploc bags (gallon size or quart size).

Reminder: The celebration of life for Jean Shield is tomorrow, Saturday, Aug. 9, 11 am, at Gunderson East Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 5203 Monona Drive in Madison, with visitation before the service starting at 10 am. To view the celebration via livestream, click the link below at the time of the service. Read the full obituary.

Lost and Found

Three water bottles, glasses, and a lightweight, water-repellent Columbia jacket (appeared after the Geasland funeral) are in the "Lost and Found" basket in the coat area in the Fellowship Area. If you recognize one as yours, it has been "Found." If they are still "lost" on August 20, they will be donated.

Will You?

Do you have a message to share with our congregation? It could be your spiritual journey, on a specific topic, or a piece of scripture. Please prayerfully consider if God is nudging you to step out in this way. Contact Kathy Schwenn or anyone else on SaLT if you have questions or to say yes.

Weekly Creation Care Topic

Reduce/Reuse/Recycle

This week’s tipREDUCE - Be mindful of what goes into your compost. Even though items may be on or surrounding food, they may be plastic, which does not break down and leaves toxins in the compost.

For example, this picture is of a tea bag that has been in a compost pile for several months. The organic matter has broken down, making wonderful compost, but the teabag, which is plastic, remains intact. Other items to watch out for include: some coffee filters that do not say made from “paper only”, the little round stickers on fruit and veggies, wax paper, and even some “compostable” bags contain plastic. Make sure to remove all stickers and other items containing plastic prior to composting your scraps.
