Just Bakery Coming Again!
November 16, 2025 after worship
In September MUCC began our relationship with Just Bakery, a branch of Just Dane. Just Bakery is a training program for people with different barriers to employment, such as homelessness and previous incarceration. The program teaches a variety of skills, and participants can even earn up to 15 credits towards a Culinary degree at Madison College! MUCC GETS TO BENEFIT, TOO!
On Sunday, November 16, Just Bakery will again sell delicious baked goods in the fellowship hall after worship service. They offer sweet and savory items, as well as vegan and gluten-free options, every other 3rd Sunday of the month. Payment accepted is cash, card, check, and (sometimes) Venmo. If you discover a favorite, you can make a request ahead of time.

Rick Duchrow, part of the team that oversaw the efforts to design and build our wonderful building, shared some of the building’s history. There was a special cake to honor our 40 years at 5710 Anthony Street, as well as November Birthdays.

The Madison Area Jail Ministry is an independent, non-denominational, non-profit Christian ministry operated by unpaid volunteers and two paid Chaplains. Monetary donations help the Madison Area Jail Ministry purchase Bibles and Christian materials that the jail ministry provides to those incarcerated in Dane County Jail who request them and support the Chaplain. The jail ministry is totally dependent on donations to cover these two costs.
If you would like to pray for specific requests made by individuals incarcerated in Dane County Jail or have any questions, email Paul Hundt with the Madison Area Jail Ministry.

Youth Update
This month, our teen group experienced a meaningful cultural and community-building event. We visited Susana Valtierra's home, where she creates a large Día de los Muertos altar in her yard and invites the community to participate. Susana shared the importance of Día de los Muertos, provided historical context about her family, and taught the group about her culture and heritage. We enjoyed a potluck meal together and honored our loved ones by placing offerings and candles on the altar. It was a powerful and inspiring learning experience for our youth.
The next Teen Group gathering will be SUNDAY, DECEMBER 7: in 2 parts!
4 pm - We will meet at Target, 6321 McKee Rd, Fitchburg, at 4 pm to shop for gifts for people in the community. If you can, come and help select 20 gifts!
5:30-7 pm. Everyone is invited to Memorial UCC, 5705 Lacy Rd, Fitchburg, to help wrap the gifts, enjoy dinner, and celebrate Christmas - a little early!
McFarland Food Pantry has an Angel Tree where families can write the age/gender of their child and what they would like for Christmas. The teen group will sponsor about 20 people from the Angel Tree.

Weekly Creation Care Topic
Reduce/Reuse/Recycle
This week’s tip: Native American Heritage month: Manoomin, or wild rice, is the cornerstone of the Ojibwe identity and a valuable source of sustenance both as a food source and as a sense of community. It is especially found in the Lake Superior area. Manoomin has been under threat and declining. Invasive plant species, such as purple loosestrife, crowd it out, boat wakes harm the rice plants, runoff from agriculture and timber harvesting near the water can kill it, and waterways where it grows could become contaminated if nearby oil pipes rupture. Add in climate change, where shorter cold periods affect germination, and longer periods of heat and humidity lead to fungus and pathogens, and there are reduced amounts of manoomin for native folks to harvest. They are grateful for a good harvest this year, but much care is needed to protect this important tradition.
