Spring Cleanup Day

Date changed to Sat., May 18

Our spring cleanup day will be Saturday, May 18, from 8:00 am to noon. There are indoor and outdoor tasks. There will be coffee and pastries, as well as a luncheon at 11 am. All are welcome! People may come for as long or as little time as they are available. All help is welcome, as many hands make light work.

Pentecost

May 19th is Pentecost! It is the celebration and birthday of the church. Wear red (or orange or pink) as a reminder of the Spirit upon us.

Strengthen the Church Collection

The Strengthen the Church collection happens on Pentecost. The Strengthen the Church Offering supports congregations and initiatives that help us live into the United Church of Christ's "big tent" vision. Funds support leadership development, new churches, youth ministry, and renewal initiatives in existing congregations. Your conference and the national ministries work together to use these funds for projects that matter now and for the future of our movement. Through this offering, we further our commitment to being a multi-racial/multi-cultural church accessible to all.

Volunteer for Brat Fest

For over 40 years, Brat Fest has served up brats, music, and other entertainment on Memorial Day weekend, May 24-26, 2024, to benefit charities at the Alliant Energy Center grounds. Learn more about being a volunteer and sign up for volunteer shifts at Brat Fest. When you volunteer, it will ask what organization you're volunteering for so make sure to choose McFarland UCC at the bottom of the choices. It will then allow you to sign up for different shifts/activities. Feel free to sign up for whatever time/day/activity works best for you! Thank you for donating your time!

Weekly Creation Care Tips -

Reduce/Reuse/Recycle

This week’s Tip: According to the Amnesty International report in March 2024, 3 South Asian countries: Bangladesh, Pakistan, & India have the worst air quality in the world leading to health concerns for more than a billion people. While high income fossil fuel producers are looking to increase production (& thus pollution), Amnesty International states that it is “essential to help safeguard public health & human rights…& that a full, fast, fair & funded fossil fuel phase out cannot be put off any longer.” Amnesty cites that studies from the Corporate Climate Responsibility Monitor have shown that 80% of carbon dioxide emissions between 2016-2022 can be traced to just 57 cement or fossil fuel companies. It is time to hold companies responsible. (Note: May is designated Asian American Heritage Month)
