A Message from Rev. Robert...

Hi, folks!

Well! It's been quite the "adventure" having urgent back surgery followed by a week in the hospital and now, back home. I had hoped to transfer to a rehab hospital, but my insurance thought otherwise. Can you relate?

Although I'm moving pretty slow, I welcome your calls, emails and texts. Thanks to everyone who visited me in the hospital and have offered their help as needed. I will need some help with housekeeping and errands, so please let me know how and when you're available.

My surgeon says I'll need another six weeks of recovery. During that time I hope to attend worship via Zoom to offer whatever help I can. Likewise and if ever I can help YOU, feel free to call me with your joys and concerns!

Words can't express how grateful I am for your loving support along with the privilege of serving as your interim pastor. God willing, I hope to heal quickly and see you all soon!

Stuff the Buss

Submitted by Russ St Clair

Each year, a handful of McFarland community organizations and businesses and area churches work together to conduct a 'Stuff the Bus' campaign.  The McFarland UCC will be supporting this year’s campaign by hosting a donation box in our lobby, so that church members can donate backpacks or school supplies if they wish to do so.

Stuff the Bus is an effort to encourage community members to donate backpacks and school supplies for low-income students in the McFarland School District, to help them deal with the expenses of the new school year. After the campaign is completed, the backpacks with school supplies are then given to children of families served by the McFarland Food Pantry (which serves the school district population).

This year's Stuff the Bus campaign runs between August 1 and Saturday, August 15 (but you can still donate items at church on Sunday, August 16). If you wish to donate backpacks or school supplies, you can drop them off at the donation box located in the lobby now through Sunday, August 16. Or you can drop them off in the donation boxes at the village municipal center, the McFarland Library, McFarland Walgreens, or McFarland Pick 'N Save between August 1 and August 15. You can also drop donations off at the high school (main entrance) between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 15. If you wish to make a cash donation, you can send a donation to the McFarland Community Food Pantry (specify 'Stuff the Bus' on the memo line of your check), PO Box 101, McFarland, WI 53558. Or donate online by clicking here (using PayPal or Venmo), and specify 'Stuff the Bus' in a comment.

School supplies needed: Themed Backpacks (Grades K-5); Sturdy Backpacks (Grades 6-12); Washable and Non-Washable Markers (Thick & Thin); Pens (Blue or Black); Loose Leaf Paper - College of Wide Ruled; Black Expo Dry Erase Markers (Fine Line or Bold); Sharpies Black (Fine Line or Bold); Wood #2 Pencils (preferably sharpened); Erasers (Large & pencil top); Highlighters; 3” Post-it Notes; Lined or Unlined Notecards (3” x 5”, or 4” x 6”); White 3-Ring Binders (1” or 1.5”); Paper Mate Flair Pens; Sturdy 2 Pocket Folders (with or w/o metal fasteners); Composition Notebooks – College-Ruled; Notebooks 1 Subject – Wide-Ruled; Roll of Clear Tape; Hand Sanitizer – 4 Oz Container; Facial Tissues (i.e., Kleenex or Puffs); Ziploc Bags - Gallon Size; Disinfectant Wipes i.e. Clorox / Wet Ones; 4-Oz Bottle of School Glue; Plastic Pencil Supply Box; Zippered Pencil Case/Bag; 8-Tab Set of Binder Dividers; Pkg of 50 Document Protectors; Roll of Painters Blue Tape; Pack of Graph Paper; Pack of Tracing Paper. We DON’T need these items this year: scissors, crayons, glue sticks, wide-ruled composition notebooks, 1-subject college-ruled spiral notebooks, rulers, whiteboard erasers, mechanical pencils, or geometry sets.

Help raise money for wells in Uganda!

Jean Blackmore and Martha Olsen participated in the dedication and building of wells in Uganda. In September, you can join us to raise money for additional wells. The 2026 Walk-4-Water event is September 19 at McDaniel Park. The funds raised will provide safe drinking water to thousands of villagers in rural Uganda. Access to clean, safe water reduces disease and saves lives. The 2026 Walk-4-Water is the eighth year the McFarland Lutheran Church has held the event. Past fundraisers have provided for 23 wells in Uganda. This year’s goal is $57,500, enough to fund the drilling of 5 freshwater borehole wells in rural Uganda. We hope that you will join us!

Reduce/Reuse/Recycle

July 31: Ever wonder what to plant, or what kind of environment a plant you enjoy needs to thrive, or wonder what a particular plant may look like in real life? Be inspired by the UW County Extension Teaching Garden. They design and maintain 12 different types of garden areas that are free for the public to stop by to take a self-guided tour, or arrange a free group, staff-led tour. Plants are labeled and include QR codes for further information. Or, if you dream of becoming a master gardener, this is a place for you, as Lisa Johnson offers master gardener classes here. The gardens are located just up Marsh Rd at 5201 Fen Oak Dr, Madison.
