Thanks to all who volunteered to assist with the Celebration of Life Service for Lavon Geasland on Wednesday, 7/30. Details about Lavon’s service were not finalized until late Sunday afternoon, 7/27. That night, a post on Facebook and an all-church email about Lavon’s services included the request for assistance. In less than 24 hours, over 35 people responded, and the Funeral Team was able to finalize plans for the service and lunch. Ultimately, 47 members of our church community assisted with the many activities involved with a Celebration of Life service and lunch (assuring the church was clean and ready for a crowd, setting up tables and chairs, making salads and desserts, setting up the lunch, serving and cleaning up, providing tech support). The Geasland Family expressed their sincere gratitude for the outpouring of support and love.
Thanks for truly being a church with heart!

Stuff the Bus
August 2-16 (17 at MUCC)
Each year, a handful of McFarland community organizations and businesses (including the McFarland Lions, the Lioness Lions, the American Legion Auxiliary, One Community Bank, Nelson Bus Service, the McFarland School District, and area churches) work together to conduct a 'Stuff the Bus' campaign. The McFarland UCC is hosting a donation box in our lobby in support.
Stuff the Bus is an effort to encourage community members to donate backpacks and school supplies for low-income students in the McFarland School District, to help them with the expenses of the new school year. After the campaign is completed, the backpacks with school supplies are then given to children of families served by the McFarland Food Pantry (which serves the school district population).
Backpacks or school supplies can be placed in the donation box located by the coat racks now through Sunday, August 17. Or you can drop them off in the donation boxes at the village municipal center, the McFarland Library, McFarland Walgreens, or McFarland Pick 'N Save between August 2 and August 16. Donations can also be dropped off at McFarland High School (main entrance) between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Saturday, August 16.
Cash donations should be made payable to the McFarland Community Food Pantry (specify 'Stuff the Bus' on the memo line of your check), PO Box 101, McFarland, WI 53558, or give your check to church member Judy Taber, manager of the food pantry! Click here to donate online (PayPal or Venmo), and specify 'Stuff the Bus' in a comment.
School supplies needed: Sturdy backpacks (grades 6-12); Kleenex; black Expo dry erase markers; spiral notebooks (college-ruled or wide-ruled, 1-subject); #2 wood pencils (preferably sharpened); binder dividers; white 1-inch 3-ring binders; yellow highlighters; Post-It notes; composition notebooks (wide-ruled); felt-tip pens; pocket calculators; and Ziploc bags (gallon size or quart size).

I’m looking for you!!!
On August 10, the focus of the service will be stories--stories from your own book of life! Do you have a 3-5 minute story of an act of kindness? The awareness of the presence of God? An act of justice or defending a person or a cause? Something that you discovered using your God-given talent? A time when God was with you either in despair or joy? When you stepped out in faith not certain of the future? Zoomers, you can participate, too! If you do have a story to share, please let me know via email or in person. We’ll compile an oral book of shorts stories!
Thanks! I’m waiting to hear from you!

Will You?
Do you have a message to share with our congregation? It could be your own spiritual journey, on a specific topic, or a piece of scripture. We need people to give the message on Sundays to fill the gap between Pastor Bryan leaving and the start of our interim pastor. Please prayerfully consider if God is nudging you to step out in this way. Contact Kathy Schwenn or anyone else on SaLT if you have questions or to say yes.

Weekly Creation Care Topic
Reduce/Reuse/Recycle
This week’s tip: RECYCLE - Did you know that the carton containers for juice, milk, soup, wine, cream, and egg substitutes are all recyclable? Rinse and drain out the liquid (it does not need to be fully dry), and put the plastic cap back on. What you may see as “wax” on a carton is actually a thin layer of polyethylene or plastic, which is recyclable too. In Dane County, do not crush the cartons as they are mechanically sorted by shape.
