Dear Sausalito Bike and Pedestrian Advocates,

Each year Sausalito City Council considers the Capital Improvement Program (CIP), and it’s an impactful time to remind our leaders that we need better, safer infrastructure that considers the needs for pedestrians and people on bicycles.

The CIP is being reviewed this Tuesday, April 5, 2024 at 7pm. Unfortunately, some critical projects are in danger of being delayed or constrained. Please consider commenting on any or all of these topics, using this a starting point:

  1. Construction needs to start on the Ferry Landside Project by Fall 2024.

  2. The City should accelerate plans for final design and construction of Coloma St Safety Improvements and Bridgeway Pedestrian Safety Improvements between Napa and Johnson (one of the most dangerous stretches of road in Marin!).

  3. City Council needs to let the professional traffic engineers develop conceptual designs on the Bridgeway Safety Improvement Project between Princess and Richardson. City Council unanimously approved this grant-funded study last year. The City should work with TAM and MTC to keep construction grant funds alive until the project comes back for public input and City Council decision.

  4. The City needs to ramp up grant writing! In particular, Sausalito is well-positioned to seek grant funds from Regional Measure 3 (which set aside $150 million of bridge tolls to close gaps in the San Francisco Bay Trail). City Council should direct staff to prioritize the submission of thoughtful grant application(s) that could bring one or more sections of the North-South Greenway to life!

Please consider sending a supportive email to cityc...@sausalito.gov before 3 PM on April 2nd, or attending the meeting in person at City Hall or by Zoom (passcode: 123456).

Thank you for helping to make Sausalito safer and more accessible for all.

Best,

Kieran
