Dear Members

When creating a kcse computer project, keep the following in mind

1. Don't use any programming language like visual basic, pascal, C++, Java or any other program in the category of programming languages. You are only allowed to use a database but don't embed programming codes in your database. Examiners will doubt whether it was your work. But there is no harm using SQL in any database of your choice
2. Not confirmed though, Computer project is related to question 16 of paper 1, thus marking of this paper is influenced on how you answered question 16 on paper 1. This has something to do with system design phase. Don't make it look like you are the best database developer in the world, stick to the rules and check previous marking schemes.
3. Don't care on formatting, colors have no marks, concentrate on making your project presentable-yes but don't overdo formatting features
4. Make sure you know how to make a switchboard. Its very important in any database. am writing a documentation to assist you on how to develop a switchboard and will be available at www.atikaschool.com soon
5. Don't waste all your time on the project. paper 1 - theory has a higher weight in marks allocation than paper 2 and 3. Its not a must that your project must work 100%, documentation of your project has more marks than system construction. Focus when writing your report
6. Beware of third party projects - you can buy yes but how many people do you think have bought the project? don't end up regretting the rest of your life. Rules these days are tough
7. Create more controls like command buttons when designing forms, they have marks
8. make sure your database has queries, tables, reports and forms at least five in each - this is a variable
9. do your project earlier and forget, rush hours are not good because you need that time to prepare for other subjects
10. your teacher holds the keys to your passing, learn to ask questions and if you are not satisfied, ask in this group and me and other member teachers will search for answers. its free. Private candidates are also asked and encouraged to post questions here
11. The role of a teacher in this project is to guide the student accordingly and we will not be afraid to guide students all the time

Oh and theres no fixed number of tables,,or fixed anything, as long as your system fullfills the objectives and the right kind of relationships are formed,,which forms the basics of relational database design..its one project countrywide,,surely they dont expect 'em to be exactly the same,,objectives remain same,,implementations are numerous that I can think of,,just my opinion and stand to be corrected.
