Dear Students, Faculty, and Staff,
As Manhattan University continues with initiatives such as the James Patterson Honors Program and the Jasper Guarantee, we remain committed to strengthening the academic experience for our entire community. After a thorough, two-year review process engaging students, faculty, and administrators, we will be transitioning to a new Block Schedule beginning in Fall 2026.
This transition reflects the University’s commitment to delivering a learning environment that is responsive, equitable, and student-centered.
Goals of the Block Schedule
· Enhance Student-Centered Scheduling
o Improve the student academic experience by reducing scheduling conflicts, expanding access to needed courses, and supporting balanced course loads.
· Increase Flexibility in Course Delivery
o Expand the use of varied instructional formats (50-minute, 75-minute, 2-hour, 3-hour, and 4-hour sessions) that allow faculty to match teaching practices to curricular needs.
· Strengthen Opportunities for Engagement and Support
o Create additional open periods for advising, mentoring, tutoring, student–faculty collaboration, and campus involvement.
· Improve Access for Graduate Students and Adult Learners
o Increase evening and nontraditional scheduling options to better serve working students, graduate students, and adult learners.
· Optimize Classroom Utilization and Resource Efficiency
o Use classroom spaces more efficiently by distributing courses across the instructional week and addressing space bottlenecks.
· Establish a Continuous Improvement Cycle for Scheduling
o After implementation we will continue refinement using surveys, focus groups, and scheduling analytics to guide improvements during and after the 2026–2027 implementation period.
