Paid 2012 Summer Internship Program - Rockefeller Archive Center - Sleepy Hollow, NY

Description

The Rockefeller Archive Center (RAC) is now accepting applications for its 2012 Summer Internship Program. For more than thirty-five years the Archive Center has been dedicated to the collection, stewardship, and study of primary materials - documents, photographs, and audio-visual media - that reflect the history of the Rockefeller Family and the impact of their philanthropy. Our archival holdings provide unique insights into worldwide developments in such fields as medicine, public health, science, the arts, international affairs, social welfare, education, and the social sciences.

The core of the RAC collections documents the programs and activities of various Rockefeller-related philanthropies including the Rockefeller University, the Rockefeller Foundation, the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, the Population Council, and the Social Science Research Council. The Archive Center is also the repository for the records of other foundations and nonprofit organizations, including the Commonwealth Fund, the William T. Grant Foundation, the Russell Sage Foundation, the Near East Foundation, and the Foundation for Child Development, among dozens of others. Each year, nearly 300 scholars from around the world visit the RAC to conduct research in its archival collections.

The RAC internships are designed for undergraduates with varied academic interests, but should be especially attractive to those studying history and such related fields as the social sciences, international relations, public policy, or art history. The Summer Program will provide participants with the opportunity to work with archivists and to learn about archival practices and potential careers in that profession; some students will work with the research and education staff and assist in a number of projects, conferences, and educational programs. The Program will include lectures and seminars, individual and collaborative projects, all designed to expose students to the full range of RAC activities. Field trips to other archival repositories and regional historical institutions are also planned.

The internships are full-time (35 hours per week) with a stipend of $4,000 for a ten-week period commencing Monday, June 11 and ending Friday, August 17, 2012. Benefits, housing, and transportation are not provided. Applicants must be currently enrolled undergraduates (not graduating before December 2012) and must be able to show proof that they are eligible to lawfully work in the United States prior to hire date.

How to Apply

Applicants should submit a letter describing their interest in the program, along with a resume by Wednesday, February 8, 2012 to Bethany J. Antos, Internship Program Coordinator at Internsh...@rockarch.org. Additionally, a reference letter from a faculty member or other academic professional must be submitted directly to Internsh...@rockarch.org by the same date.

Review of submissions will begin soon after the closing date. A phone or on-line interview will be arranged with qualified candidates. All applicants will be notified by Wednesday, March 14, 2012. For further information about the program, please contact:
