Hi guys, obviously the Cad club got cancelled tonight due to lack of sign ups.

Is there any plans for the future on the club?

I'm personally really keen to get some tutelage on Solidworks so I for one would love to see the club keep going.

Hi Jack,

I am also keen to see the club thrive, and am happy to run some Solidworks hands on sessions in Makespace. I am normally in on Tuesday evenings, but this week with the petrol chaos and not feeling too well the night before I decided to cancel plans to come in since nobody had registered to attend. We will try again next month.

I would also welcome some others to offer to present some months, so we get some other perspectives.

Hello people,

I am a mechanical engineer and happy to teach Solidworks and anything related that people are interested in. I joined recently but have been a bit snowed under so haven't been very proactive, but am sure that I can find a time either online or in person.

Cheers,
Eugene

I only have a desktop as well, are there shared Makespace laptops? That would be ideal since it would be nice to have the option to do it in vivo.

Does anyone know how many people are interested and how to organise/run something like this? I have no idea what needs to be done to organise it.

Best regards,

Hi guys, thanks so much for that.

I'd be happy to attend for hands on sessions on do an online session, whatever is more convenient for the tutor.

I do not have a laptop however only a desktop so if we need to provide our own device I would be limited to online sessions im afraid.

Cheers Ward.

Looks like there is plenty of content on how to use Solidworks so I won't give any lectures. I could do a design review group to give feedback and suggestions for people who are doing projects. I'm happy to do it if even a couple of people are interested. Does that sound useful? I'm open to alternative suggestions.

I agree with the content stuff. Lots of line to learn from.

What would be supper useful for me would just be a time where I could head in and get some help from a more experienced CADer. Like a regular hour each week/fortnight where I can come and see if there is some advice I can use to help me get though bits where I am getting getting stuck and online content is lacking.

Sincerely,

Harry

First a thanks to Footleg(Paul) who has done ALL the admin and delivery for the club.

Second, a good place to start might be to post questions and challenges in the discussion group.  Others might have experienced the same and can address an issue quickly.

I agree that searching in groups and online is a helpful start to problems, though when that doesn't work, then often speaking with other engineers can help a lot.

I could probably do Monday or Wednesday 5:30-6:30pm every fortnight, in person or online tbd based on attendees. How does that sound? Post a reply if you are interested, and also let me know if you're currently working on a design project, and whether the schedule works for you.

The Solidworks forums went private recently. A lot of resources is now only available to license holders. I used to just browse them but now I have to log in. A resource within the club would be great to have for many.

There is a meeting scheduled for the club already.  Footleg has been
organising.  Please search on Meetup for the next one.

In general it is worth while looking at the other Makespace events
scheduled at meetup just so things don't clash.

Also worth while looting at
:https://web.makespace.org/hosting-an-event/    If you are going to
schedule anything in Makespace someone will need to host it and take
responsibility.  Not at all onerous, just fire safety and code of
conduct announcement etc.

I am changing the format for CAD Club for 2023. Events in the second half of 2022 rather fell flat with little of no attendees and several of the monthly meet ups clashing with things for me personally.

I am proposing instead of make Tuesday evenings CAD nights in the Makespace classroom. I am already there most weeks for the Raspberry Pi meetup, which has a few regulars and occasional drop ins, but we can easily combine the events. The formats of both events are pretty much the same: Bring your projects, or just come along to socialise or pick the brains of other enthusiasts. If you want help with SOLIDWORKS then come along on a Tuesday evening and find me in the Makespace classroom, where I will be happy to help.
