At the May members meeting (
folder) a proposal was put forward to think about building out labs if new space becomes available at Mill Lane. This would be a clean, open space for electronics, 3D printing and science/tech activities including specialised facilities like a biology lab, dark room, microscopes etc.
You can see the presentation
here.
The Biomakespace committee also presented that the lease on the biology labs at the Biomedical Campus runs out in Oct 2022 and we have to direct energy towards finding a future space. We therefore wanted to know if there was support from the Makespace community to explore moving to Mill Lane, in which case we can put time and effort into a detailed proposal; or no support in which case we can focus on alternative plans.
At the June meeting (
folder/
notes) the following question was asked: Do you support working towards a goal of establishing labs at Mill Lane that would include facilities for biological workshops, projects and activities? The majority of members were in favour and we got some very useful feedback as well as points to consider moving forward.
Now with this support, there will be some meetings in the coming weeks to start planning a more detailed proposal for labs in Mill Lane and interim activities and clubs. We'd love to hear your ideas!
Please join the first meeting "Labs at Makespace: next steps!" @ Thu Jul 28, 2022 7pm - 9pm. RSVP on Meetup and come along to the Makespace Classroom or join us via Google Meet.
You can also join the
Biology Club google group which we will use to coordinate future meetings for the time being. Looking forward to continuing this conversation!
