Hosting Tips

Clarisse will do the introduction:

• Welcome to Biology Club - the first of many

• How to find info: google group, Meetup

• What is Makespace and Biomakespace

Intro Slides

If there are sufficiently few people (<15) then do one line intros, otherwise into talks

Chinna will host the speaking part and Q&A

Clarisse will come back in at the end to say goodbye:

• Reminder that next event is 8 March

• Looking for people to help organise, please join the google group.

Last Minute Social Media

• Everyone was asked to retweet the event

• There are over 20 people signed up on Meetup

Engaging people

• Asking people to post session ideas in the chat

• Slide on where to find us - Meetup, site, google group, Mattermost

• Emphasise how new this is and you can shape Biology Club

• Ask to bring friends along next time

• Show and Tell - what have you built?

• Where would you use a device like this? E.g. home brewing

Communications

• Youtube: disclaimer at start of meeting, post to youtube after it is recorded. Will depend on speaker and topic permission - should check beforehand.

• Pin a message in the chat group, reminder at the beginning and end.

• Russ is down for video editing

Community Biology Around the World

• Five out of six speakers responded positively: we have US, Canada, 

• Someone to speak about Biomakespace - Biomakespace committee meeting is to follow so will ask.

Any Other Business

• Jen is thinking about people to contact about bioinformatics training and will approach someone she knows who sits on an ethics board. Also could ask about how to tell if a mutation,

• Jenny is trying to transform the PCR reaction into LAMP assay - will report back.

• Chinna has a low-cost LAMP device project underway, Jenny will link with her postdoc who is about to test a few of these

• 19 March: democratising cellular agriculture with a New Harvest Fellow event announcement.

Actions

• Vamsi will send some cool logo ideas

• Jenny to set up the Trello for the planning group, Jen to check if there is gsuite option

• Katia to look into Jamboards as a way to take notes during the meetings, 

• Jenny to ask Makespace Directors about Zoom transcription and media release forms
