I was considering having a resource table at the event but I mentioned this to our outreach/diversity and inclusion committee and some of the members thought it might be inappropriate for MakeHaven to participate because I'm the leader of MakeHaven (not minority).
We do have black representation in our leadership on our board of directors and have specific goals around empowering people of color as entrepreneurs. Is it appropriate for MakeHaven to apply as a resource table?
Another option is that we could identify a couple of the black entrepreneurs at MakeHaven who we are incubating businesses making things and we cover the cost of their shared vendor table in order to have some materials/ assocation/presence
at the event and be visible as a resource. (Or do both resource/vendor)
I did read through the materials looking for guidance and saw that it said "Black- and Brown-owned businesses spanning the arts, books, clothing and retail, consulting, cosmetics and skincare, food and drinks, jewelry, wellness products, and
more" but not sure that applies to community resources that are not a business, and technically not owned by an individual.
We, MakeHaven, would love to participate in some way but I want to make sure we do so in the spirit of the event. Do you have any advice about what is appropriate for MakeHaven?
