Taking from something we used to do in my past life, I made a first pass at a New Member hand-out that we can give to people at the end of their safety orientation/badge pick-up. The thought is that it will help bridge the gap from "here's your badge" to "what do I do now".

Any and all thoughts, comments, adds, suggestions welcome. This link should allow anyone to make comments, so in the doc would be ideal but this thread is also cool.

Right now, I'm just working on text/information. Design, images and layout will come later.

Cheers,

This is a good retention idea for new members. People respond different to video / website / handouts so never hurts to have some different mediums to communicate the most important stuff. Ill give some thought to what I would add.

Hello all!
I'm going to pick this back up next week and hope to have it available when I do my safety orientations next Thursday.
If anyone has thoughts or suggestions, please add them in the next few days.

Really great idea! I'm excited to see it happen, thanks Ashely. I put in my 2¢ -- I'm trying to think of common questions I get at orientation and in the space, so we can address those, as well as ways to market important offerings (events, programs, etc.) Well done.

I'll be diving into this over the next 3 days.

Love to have feedback, I’ll put this on hold for the rest of the week, to give more time to review.

Just a friendly reminder that this draft is just looking for the core information we want to convey. Things like exact language, formatting and the like will be adjusted once I have a finalized list of what info we want to convey, and plan for another ask for feedback once it’s in a later, more finalized version which will be the ideal time for more fine tooth comb input.

Thanks all! :)

I have fewer notes than I thought after seeing what JR and Kate added.

The main thing that I was interested in being there is the ethos of MakeHaven. Might be good to get that in early on as a point of culture for new membership. Doesn't need to be long but it does have practical value for you all as a team. Looks like its going to be solid otherwise.

Along those lines it could be where we reinforce the core principles.

MISSION

To equip people with tools to design, invent, and create.

VISION A picture of the “preferred future”; how the future will be different if you achieve your ultimate aims.
The New Haven area is enriched by creativity and entrepreneurship.

GUIDING PRINCIPLES Overarching, enduring guidelines that set the foundation for how you will operate, internally and externally

Community - We practice collaboration and knowledge-sharing as keys to success.

Inclusion - We recognize that our community is stronger when everyone is involved and represented.

Optimism - We celebrate one another’s successes and embrace setbacks as part of the process of creation.

Creativity - We are driven to dream, to invent, and to bring new ideas to reality.

Discovery - We believe growth and fulfillment happen through exploration.

I agree! as long as we don't overestimate how much people are going to sit down with this part. We attraction a neuro-plethora and I think we gain more when it is clear about the utility of the message.

Current version of the new member pamphlet. Thoughts?

Notes:
- Ignore the photos, they'll be replaced once all the text is finalized since it might involve some reformatting.
- Same with mention of, but lack of, QR codes. I'll plug them in once the various links we want to include are firmed up.

EDITS

Re: Email suggested
I know it is getting a bit confusing with the email addresses and I might have told you the wrong one.
Member-care directs to Christina, it was created for retention /billing issues so she could have a generic email when responding on those tissues.
For general new member questions we created an email wel...@makehaven.org. We have not used it much but the idea was that that would be the bucket for new member emails (both a series of outgoing emails and directing to staff inboxes).
The other option is just membe...@makehaven.org - This is for any membership related communications and gets directed to kate.

Re: Guests
We should say 2 guests welcome (not just guests welcome)

Re: Youtube
The link does not work https://www.youtube.com/@makehaven

Re: slack
We might want to just mention that there are channels. and Say something like "click ___ to find other channels of your interest" Some suggested channels are #whtever.
(I have talked to a few people who did not get that they can add and remove channels).

Re: Badges / Equipment
The most common issue is people dont go on to get a badge. Often people are confused about the process. I see we already have this section but we might want to be more explicit. I would say to direct people to go to the equipment list makehaven.org/equipment and open the full tool page to see the badging info for that tool.

SUGGESTIONS

Since we just did the orientation maybe we dont need the fire and safety glasses section. And can replace with one of these other resources that might be of interest to new members.

Option: Household
Add a Household Member: How to add a household member at discount: /household

Refer a Friend: https://www.makehaven.org/refer
Are you loving makeHaven? Get a $50 credit when your friend joins.

Option: Projects
We should suggest people consider project ideas at makehaven.org/projects (I will be improving the projects section). These were put together as all projects that can be done at MakeHaven with our tools.

Option: Lending Library
Maybe worth mentioning the lending library?
Makehaven.org /library

Option: Payment Portal
I think rather than going over most of the safety stuff we might want to mention that they can manage their billing at the billing link or https://www.makehaven.org/blling

Option: Community Resources
A common question from new members is where to buy things. We have a list of resources in the community at:
https://www.makehaven.org/community-resources

Maybe we should look to direct new members to a particular new member landing page that we can update in the future?

We also have the FAQ that is a good resource for common questions: https://www.makehaven.org/member-faq

We could create a new member FAQ with most of the same types of questions but customized to new members.
