Maine Geological Survey

Summer Intern Position Annoucement

The Maine Geological Survey (MGS) is pleased to announce a job opening for a college-level geology student in our Augusta office this summer. The position, made possible by USGS National Geological and Geophysical Data Preservation Program grant, will assist with a large digital conversion project to make mining claims maps and claim file reference information digitally available.

Job duties include:

Scanning claims maps, georeferencing them using GIS, and digitizing claim locations into the MGS spatial database.
Scanning the claim files and organizing them into PDF documents for sharing in the MGS online document repository.

This project serves the on-going efforts at MGS to make historical, paper-based data available in digital formats on the MGS website.
