Dear colleagues,

I would like to share with you “Awesome Electricity Demand,” a repository that centralizes open-access high-resolution electricity demand datasets from around the world, available at:

Reliable, high-resolution electricity demand data—especially with hourly or sub-hourly temporal resolution—are critical for research and operational work in energy systems. However, such data are often fragmented and difficult to find. This repository addresses these challenges by aggregating publicly available demand data sources globally into one accessible, well-documented collection.

Use cases and benefits of this curated dataset collection include:
  • Model Validation and Calibration: Enhance the accuracy of electricity demand models by benchmarking against real-world demand profiles.
  • Consumption Pattern Analysis: Investigate temporal trends across seasons, weeks, and days to better understand demand dynamics.
  • Grid Planning and Investment: Leverage historically demand data for infrastructure and resource adequacy planning.
  • Demand Forecasting Development: Build and improve forecasting models trained on extensive historical demand profiles.
The repository covers multiple countries and regional subdivisions, offering direct links to datasets with temporal granularity typically between 5 and 60 minutes over several years, where available.

We warmly invite anyone with additional electricity demand data to contribute and help expand this shared resource. Contributions can be easily made via GitHub pull requests to ensure continuous improvements and broad coverage.

Thank you for helping make quality electricity demand data more accessible and useful for global energy research and systems planning.

Best,

Enrico Antonini
