Hey energy nerds,

Last week we put out a new quarterly PUDL data release, v2025.5.0. You can find the release notes here and instructions for accessing the data here. The data in this release was captured on May 1st.

Some highlights include:
  • New imputed versions of the historical hourly demand curves derived from both the EIA-930 (2015-2025Q1) and FERC-714 (2006-2023) datasets.
  • An additional 5 years (2014-2018) of hourly renewable generation profiles at the county level, from the VCE RARE dataset.
  • Preliminary 2024 FERC Form 1, 2, 6 & 60 data (~95% of respondents seem to have filed on time)
  • YTD updates for some of the more frequently updated datasets, like EIA-860M, EIA-923, and EPA CEMS hourly emissions.
Let us know if you find anything particularly useful or broken!

Thanks to everyone who responded to our first annual PUDL user survey! We're compiling a set of projects to work on this and next quarter on the basis of that feedback. Mostly they are focused on better documentation and making our methodologies more visible.

And as always a big thank you to RMI and GridLab for supporting these ongoing quarterly updates and maintenance of the data pipeline.  If anybody else finds this work useful and wants to chip in, take a look at the PUDL page on Open Collective.

Cheers,
Zane
