Dear colleagues,

The AGU Fall Meeting is the largest Earth and space science conference in the world, bringing together more than 25,000 attendees across disciplines, sectors, and regions. In recent years, the role of energy systems in addressing global environmental challenges has gained significant visibility at AGU, reflecting the urgency and interdisciplinary nature of this work.

In recognition of this momentum, the Macro-Energy Systems (MES) Society will host a community meeting during the 2025 AGU Annual Meeting. The central part of this gathering will take place within a dedicated MES session that is part of AGU’s main scientific program. We encourage members interested in participating to submit an abstract through AGU’s regular process. Please note that AGU requires all presenters to be current AGU members at the time of abstract submission.

Abstract submission is now open and will close on Wednesday, July 30.

We especially encourage submissions that explore:

  • Energy system transitions in response to global environmental challenges

  • Interactions between MES and the Earth system

  • Societal implications of MES research

  • Interdisciplinary approaches that inform actionable research and policy

We anticipate that quality abstracts relevant to the session themes will be included in the program ( as space allows). Our goal is to secure at least one oral session slot, which would require >20 abstracts typically needed for consideration. Please help us secure an oral session by submitting and sharing widely.

More information about our session can be found here: https://agu.confex.com/agu/agu25/prelim.cgi/Session/247287

You can submit your abstract here: https://www.agu.org/annual-meeting/present/proposals

Please feel free to reach out with any questions. We look forward to your contributions and to advancing the MES community together.

Sincerely,

The 2025 MES Community Meeting Planning Committee

Dear colleagues,

There are only a few days left to submit abstracts for the Macro-Energy Systems (MES) community session at the 2025 AGU Fall Meeting. The deadline is Wednesday, July 30.

We’ve already received exciting submissions from institutions such as MIT, Notre Dame, Princeton, and UC Irvine, with topics including:

  • Agent-based infrastructure planning to better understand energy transitions
  • Governance and strategies for a just, decarbonized future
  • Maximizing wind turbine efficiency through adaptive blade pitch control

If you’re working at the intersection of energy systems, environmental change, and societal outcomes, we encourage you to submit and help us secure an oral session slot.
