Hello,

I am looking into incorporating barcodes for the internal tracking of archival containers in real time (eg. from an offsite facility to the Reading Room), run reports (eg. How many times pulled, what’s on loan, or missing, etc.).

What sort of inventory tracking systems do you use along with ArchivesSpace?  Has anyone had any luck incorporating Snipe-IT into their workflow, for example?

Hi all,

I am revisiting this question from Chris since it dovetails with something I am trying to look into.

I’ve found commercial/hosted applications like Aeon and Alma, circa for locally running (but we can’t install a tool locally for complicated reasons). All I’m thinking of is

  1. Scan barcode at current location
  2. Scan location barcode at target destination
  3. Reflect changes into ArchivesSpace using that data to ensure a similar location isn’t mistyped into the Box

I was thinking of creating a small GUI app leveraging the API but there’s a maintenance aspect. Whereas if someone already has a solution…?

Hi Brian,

We created a tool like that (but more complex) when we moved all of our collections into a new building.  More recently we've created a stripped down version that does more or less what you want for when we're going to shift a lot of boxes, but it isn't automatically tied into ArchivesSpace.  I still have to download the csv from the tool and run a script against the API, so there's a delay in updating locations in ArchivesSpace.

If this is of interest to anyone, I'm happy to share the functional requirements I wrote for either system or ask the person who did the development if they are able to share the code.

All the best,

Dan
