I am happy to announce that Lora Woodford will soon be joining the ArchivesSpace team in the position of Developer.
Lora is well known to many in the ArchivesSpace community. She served as the program team’s Junior Developer from 2018-2021, and has been an active presence in archives and ArchivesSpace for many years both before and since that time. Prior to shifting over
to the development side of things, Lora was an early adopter of ArchivesSpace as an archivist at Colgate University and the Digital Archivist at Johns Hopkins University. During her time as a developer on ArchivesSpace, she worked on many key features, including
container merging and expanded language support, and was deeply involved in improving the application’s accessibility and formalizing some of our technical processes. In her years since leaving the program team, she worked for Fearless, a federal contractor,
as a Senior Software Engineer focusing on
search.gov, and at the Smithsonian as an IT Specialist, where she has developed code and supported ArchivesSpace and other systems across the Smithsonian’s 18 archival units. Lora has also served as a trainer on technical and non-technical topics throughout
her career.
In her position as Developer, Lora will work closely with the other members of the development team to implement priorities for the application established by the community and help to manage the application's underlying infrastructure. We are delighted that,
with Lora on board, our full eight-person program team will be in place.
In a farewell message when Lora left the program team in 2021, I pointed out that "Lora is the rare combination of an excellent developer and incredibly knowledgeable archival professional, and we have benefitted from her analytical mind and sharp insights
time and time again.” We are so excited to welcome her back to the team and for community members new and old to work closely with her in this next stage of our development.
Lora will officially rejoin the ArchivesSpace team on March 16. Please join us in welcoming her back!
