Dear ArchivesSpace members:

As the Chair of the ArchivesSpace Governance Board, I am writing to report on the group’s 4th Quarter meeting, which was held virtually on April 29.

We heard an update on operations activities, including the successful completion of the ISAD(g) crosswalking project, which was able to be extended to some of the other ICA standards. We also discussed the first year of progress on the goals of the FY2026-FY2030 strategic roadmap and we learned more about the activities of the Technical Advisory Council (TAC) and User Advisory Council (UAC).

Bridget Almas gave an update on initiatives Lyrasis is undertaking as the Organizational Home to support ArchivesSpace and other Community Support Technology (CST) programs, including leading several cross-CST workshops on the landscape and possibilities for AI in our programs. Jess Farrell joined the group to discuss progress on the CST Interoperability Project, for which she is the consultant. The user stories for ArchivesSpace will focus on digital object metadata and file deposit for DSpace and other applications that support the SWORD protocol.

We then reviewed and approved the budget proposal for FY2026-2027. The budget requested a modest increase to reflect increased travel costs, more forum activities, and exploration of AI tools.

Nadia Nasr of the Santa Clara University was announced as the incoming Vice Chair of the Governance Board. She will support our incoming Chair, Matthew Neely of the University of Oxford, during FY2026-2027. Nadia will serve as Chair in FY2027-2028.

This is the last chair’s message of my term. As a long-term member of the ArchivesSpace community at different institutions, it has been exciting to be involved in a variety of ways and at different stages of our growth. Please feel free to reach out directly to me or to your elected representative if you have feedback you would like to share.

My best,

Maggie
