Hi,

I’m on V 3.5.1.  Anyone have an issue with multiple “Mixed Material” options in the drop down for Instance Types?  We have a small user base and no one (to my knowledge) has edited the controlled values.  To date, I have ‘Mixed Materials’, ‘Mixed Material’ and ‘mixed materials’.

I do like to use the bulk import spreadsheet and am wondering if any of the values could’ve been changed by using the spreadsheet.  Not sure if there is a correlation, but it’s the only connection I can think of that might have changed the values.  Curious what the default value is, so I can merge them.

Thanks!

Hi David,

You're correct that importing data -- whether through spreadsheets or EAD or MARC files -- can add values to controlled value lists. When importing data from a spreadsheet that corresponds to these lists, you can use either the Value or the Translation, but it must be entered exactly (including spelling, capitalization, spacing, or characters like underbars), otherwise ArchivesSpace will interpret them as different terms. The system will first compare the term in your imported data against the Translations in the existing controlled value list, and then if there are no matches, look to the Values.

For Mixed Materials, we use "mixed_materials" as the Value and "Mixed Materials" as the Translation, and I believe this is the system default as well.

Hope this helps!
Rachel
