Dear ArchivesSpace members,

Dont forget to join us on January 13, 2026, at 12:00pm-1:00pm EST (find your local time) to contribute to a discussion with Yale University on enhancements to ArchivesSpace they would like to contribute back to the core code of the application.

Building on their December 8th presentation at our webinar on community enhancement projects currently in development, Alicia Detelich and Mary Kidd of Yale University would like to hear directly from the member community about the changes they would like to contribute to the community.  These changes include improving the make representative functionality in the Digital Objects module of ArchivesSpace, support for a IIIF viewer within the application, and CSV export refactoring.

Since these changes impact current functionality in the application, we encourage all members to review the webinar linked above and attend this discussion session to provide your own feedback and use cases. Yale has also provided a feedback form for those unable to attend the discussion or who would like to provide their feedback another way.

This discussion will not be recorded, and attendance is open to individuals from ArchivesSpace member organizations only. Attendees will need to register using an email address affiliated with an ArchivesSpace member organization. Only ArchivesSpace members contribute directly to the sustainability of the application.  In acknowledgement of this support, they have the opportunity to impact the direction of development of the application through discussions like this, member polls, and serving on our various governance groups.  If you have questions about ArchivesSpace membership for your organization, please feel free to email us at Archives...@lyrasis.org

Registration information for this discussion can be found below.

Dear ArchivesSpace users,

We are very pleased to announce that the ArchivesSpace application has been translated into its sixth language, Ukrainian.

This translation of the application was provided as a community contribution through the browser-based translation tool Weblate.  We intend to make this translation available in the next release of ArchivesSpace.  For now, you can test and explore this translation at test.archivesspace.org.  This test instance of ArchivesSpace contains all ongoing development work and may contain bugs or otherwise not look exactly like a formal release of ArchivesSpace but if you’re interested in reviewing the translation, you’re welcome to do so by logging in with the username admin and the password admin.

We are very grateful to our colleague, Laura Sinhur, for volunteering her time and expertise to contribute this translation and helping us formalize our processes around using Weblate to make translations of the application easier for community members to contribute.   Laura serves as the outreach advocate & representative to the Northeast region of the United States at Lyrasis and has an extensive archival background, having worked in corporate archiving and museum curation for eight years. She has in-depth knowledge in digital preservation of at-risk cultural heritage, particularly in areas of conflict and is a long-standing volunteer with SUCHO (Saving Ukrainian Cultural Heritage Online).

The ArchivesSpace application has now been translated into English, French, German, Japanese, Spanish, and Ukrainian.  If you would like to help translate the ArchivesSpace application into another language, we would love to work with you! Please email us at Archives...@lyrasis.org

Dear ArchivesSpace member community,

Based on community feedback, we’re working to add a new section to the ArchivesSpace Help Center featuring use cases from ArchivesSpace member organizations that highlight how those organizations use the functionality within the application to accomplish their work.  We know that community members are very eager for examples like this but to make this happen, we need your help!
While the ArchivesSpace User Documentation Sub-team of the User Advisory Council works to ensure the ArchivesSpace user manual contains the documentation necessary to explain how the application works, we know that how individual organizations actually use the application depends on the specific context of your work.
In an effort to build a more inclusive member community and to highlight the many ways an organization can use the application, we are soliciting community use cases to offer as supplements to our user manual. All use cases are wanted and welcome. We hope by providing a wide range use of cases and examples, we can highlight the many ways ArchivesSpace can be used to facilitate archival work.
We’ve created a form for those interested in submitting their use cases. If you'd like to share your use case(s) for more than one type of functionality, please complete the form again selecting the relevant functionality type.  Keep in mind, these use cases will be shared in the ArchivesSpace Help Center and viewable to all ArchivesSpace members.  Please don’t share any data or information you’d like to keep private. The submission form is now open and you can begin submitting use cases whenever you wish.  We will reach out to you directly before publishing your use case to the Help Center but if you have any questions in the meantime, please email Archives...@lyrasis.org for more information.
Initiatives like this are only possible with engaged community members willing to share and engage with one another. Thank you in advance for your participation.

Dear ArchivesSpace Community,

In an effort to highlight the diverse archival organizations within the ArchivesSpace community and their different approaches to ArchivesSpace implementation, we are developing an ongoing webinar series titled "Show Us Your Implementation."

With over 500 member organizations in our community representing archival repositories around the world, we know our community has a variety of approaches to their use of ArchivesSpace and varied archival collections represented in their work.  We also know that our forums, webinars, and other virtual learning opportunities tend to highlight new or innovative work happening within our community.  While we love hearing about all the exciting developments around our community, we also know that is less reflective of the day-to-day work it takes to maintain an archives or an ArchivesSpace repository.  We’ve also heard from our community that there is a genuine interest in learning more about how other archival organizations are using ArchivesSpace in their daily practice.  We hope that this new webinar series can meet that need and bring our community together.   I know I can’t wait to learn more about our community and get a virtual tour of your archival collections!

We encourage any and all ArchivesSpace members to sign up to participate in this series. No implementation of ArchivesSpace is too generic or too specific. We want to hear from organizations with highly customized ArchivesSpace implementations and those who are using ArchivesSpace "out-of-the-box." We'd love to hear why you chose to implement ArchivesSpace the way you did and to learn a little more about your organization and your archives.

Through this series, we hope community members can identify organizations with similar use cases to their own and to get inspired to approach ArchivesSpace in a way they may not have considered before. To that end, we’ve created a submission form to participate in this series.  Submissions will remain open and will be evaluated on a rolling basis.  We plan to offer these webinars regularly and feature three institutions in each hour-long session.  With almost 550 ArchivesSpace members, we hope this series will be a great success!

If you have any questions, please email Archives...@lyrasis.org for more information.

Best,

Jessica Crouch
