Importing csv when top container does not have container type?

Hi all!

As the University of Illinois tests migration of our finding aids into ArchivesSpace (currently testing with 3.5.1), we have noticed an issue with the csv importer giving an error when a top container does not include a container type. The error: “Unable to create Container Instance 1: [undefined method `strip' for nil:NilClass Did you mean? String]” This error happens even when the top container has a unique indicator and a barcode. We don’t understand why this would happen, since container type is not a required field in the admin interface.

We tried using quotes (“”) and quotes with a space (“ “) which gave the error. We also tried an underscore (_) which did not give the error but instead “other_unmapped”.

This is an issue for us as not all top containers have a container type. Is there a work around or code to stop this error from happening?
