Hi all,

I have two questions spurred by us trying to add to/untangle/fix a VERY large collection with an existing resource record:

  1. Is it possible to use rapid data entry to create siblings of an existing archival object to display directly after that existing archival object? Meaning, can we use RDE to put a bunch of new archival objects interfiled within an existing series? (We don't really use RDE much so sorry if this is a basic question!) Or, alternatively, is it possible to use the upload spreadsheet to upload archival objects into a specific location in the inventory, instead of being appended at the end?

  2. Is it possible to somehow only view top container from a particular SUBSERIES of a collection in the Manage Top Containers screen, for the purpose of adding locations to the containers for that subseries?

Thanks!
Katy

Hi Katy,

I don't believe any of these are possible via the staff interface.

A pretty simple workaround for question 1 is to:
  1. Make a dummy archival object in the place you want to add siblings to
  2. Add archival objects via RDE or import as children under that archival object
  3. Use reorder mode to move the children to right before or after the dummy archival object
  4. Delete the dummy archival object
All the best,

Dan

Thanks, Dan! I think creating children under a dummy archival object is probably the way we'll need to go...

Hi Katy,

In response to "is it possible to use the upload spreadsheet to upload archival objects into a specific location in the inventory, instead of being appended at the end?"

Selecting the record in the resource hierarchy that you would like the new records to appear after and then selecting the load via spreadsheet button in edit mode should add whatever is in your bulk sheet after that record. Keep in mind that the number you assign them in the hierarchy column will determine if they are children or siblings to the selected record (1=sibling, 2=child etc).

Best,
Anton
