Hello all,

Our facilities team recently renumbered all the library spaces. This has necessitated an update to our Aspace locations. We intend to use the API if all else fails, but are trying to understand the possibilities of the edit batch function in the SUI.

It appears that the batch editing function is limited to those visible on the search result page (for us that is 10). That works well for changes to just a handful of locations, but is not practical for larger numbers.

Does anyone know if there is a way within the SUI to select records on multiple pages of a search result to batch edit?

Thank you,

Jen

Hi,

If the changes are widespread, would it make sense to instead upload brand new locations in bulk then use manage top containers to update the container locations in bulk?

Create>Background Job>Import Data>Import Type=Location CSV

In Manage Top container - you can search by resource, or by the locations you want to change, then update the containers.

Hope that helps.
Cheers

Jen,

You can set a higher number of search results in general. It should work on the top container search page. That is a configuration option and isn’t something you can do directly as a staff user, so you’d have to contact your hosting provider or sys admin to modify your config.rb on the server. It requires restarting the service.

You would try setting AppConfig[:default_page_size]  to a higher number and be mindful of what AppConfig[:max_page_size]  is set to.

You could even set these very high temporality as you undertake the project, then reset them to a rational number after it’s over. I like 25-50 as an everyday number.

Hi Jen,

I find that the most efficient way to do this in the SUI is using the Manage Top Containers page, which does not paginate the search results (at least not in my instance of ASpace).
I went through a similar renumbering process during a container inventory. It inspired me to create a small Chrome extension that allows you to select custom groups of container records in Manage Top Containers module based on indicators/strings in whatever column(s) you select. You can then batch update the location for each group. It can also create a report of what was found/selected and what wasn't.
Here are the files/instructions: https://github.com/archivesandbox/MTC-Bulk-Tool
So far, it has worked well for me, but please do thorough testing first in a non-production environment as I am not a developer, and your instance of ASpace may have a different configuration.

If you do use it, let me know if it works as intended.

Best,
Anton
