Alt Text for file versions

Hi all,

Rather than using the ASpace PUI, we export the finding aid xml and run it through a migration script that creates html that we publish on our website. All digital assets that the finding aids link to/those that are published are stored on a server for the website. 

The web team would like to add alt text to all image/moving image/sound assets and I am trying to understand if there is a way we could add this information in ASpace so that it is encoded in the xml for the migration script to grab. Individual file versions don't appear to have any appropriate fields we could leverage. "Caption" seemed like a candidate, but it doesn't appear in the xml. 

I also thought of using one of the note types like "Summary," but I have not discovered a good method yet for attributing the notes to specific asset File versions and/or components.

Does anyone have any ideas/experience with this?
