request form generating spam

A few months ago, we enabled the "Request" form in public mode. We did a test form to make sure things were working and ever since then, that test form has been generating lots of spam emails. Does anyone know what might be causing this, and how to fix it?

That is a common problem with spam bots accessing the form. One potential solution is this plugin, but it requires setting up reCAPTCHA with Google. The readme has details:
