We are planning to upgrade our ubuntu from 22.04 LTS to 24.04 LTS, and wonder AS support it? We are currently running AS 3.5.1.  Will AS 4.0 support 24.04 LTS?  If you have done this, what issues have you had?

Thank you

Hello Bin,

We are actually running on CentOS, but the docker deployment should run happily on just about any modern OS without fuss. I do not see any issue running on the latest Ubuntu LTS.

Kind regards,
Paul

Docker does work with Unbuntu 24.04, you can install via Docker's official APT repo, so you can run AS 4.0+ in your new OS.
1. Install Docker
2. Install docker compose
3. then follow AS 4.0 installation to install AS 4.0 +

If you have any additional questions please let me know.

Good luck,

-Jimmy

Hi Paul,

Thanks!  With your encouragement I went ahead with the OS upgrade, and it worked.  The only thing I had to do after the upgrade was to reinstall the openjdk-11 package (it was removed by the upgrade process).

Best,

-Bin

Great News, Bin!

Yeah, sometimes it is best to do these things on a test deployment as OS upgrades have a tendency to go sideways when running applications bare metal. I'm glad you were able to get the package reinstalled and get your dependencies met for ASpace to function. I think we will be migrating to the containerized docker deployment when we finally upgrade our outdated OS. Docker has its own idiosyncrasies to manage, but it really helps cut down deploy time and some of these OS upgrade headaches. We currently run our digital media repository as a dockerized environment.

Cheers,
Paul
