Please send reports to the list prior to the the 17th.  If you send them to a Facebook chat and/or wait until a couple hours before the meeting, then I make no guarantees that they will appear in the agenda when the meeting starts.

Bylaws Committee

I reached out to the committee on October 22 to find out what days/times might work best for them to meet, and also asking if they would let me know if they received my email (as I was having some problems with my emails getting through to some people).  I've heard nothing back.  I'm writing this report at 9:30 pm pacific time on Saturday - since my email seems to be working a little better now, in a few minutes I will send another message out asking the same questions and report at the meeting if I've heard anything further from any of the members.

I also forwarded to the committee at that time three Bylaws proposals that I had received from Morey.  I will resend those as well.

I had hoped to have a Bylaws framework on our Discord up and running by now so we could start discussing things there.  Because of various personal things I've had going on since October (including working on Bylaws for another organization) I've not been able to turn my attention to sorting that out, but hope to do so by January 1.

This agenda says that the meeting is to start at 8pm Eastern. I thought
we agreed that this meeting would be at 11am Eastern (8am Pacific).

Did that decision get somehow reversed, is this just an error in the
agenda document, or what?

Good catch. The meeting is at 11 AM Eastern and I forgot to update that part.

I'm pretty sure I have well under 20 minutes to finish getting ready.

My reports, sans a URL that I'm scrambling to create:

Branding:
I have one of my housemates working on glyphs for a drop-in replacement
for the Fontourist Journal fonts. If successful, this will solve the
problems of an increasingly unfree font and how to replace it without
having to change our branding specs.

Events:
Our list of state conventions is certainly incomplete, but this is what
we've been able to collect through January so far:
AZ: 13 Jan
FL: 19-21 Jan
NH: 20 Jan
GA: 26 Jan
HI: 27 January

Of these, we only have arrangements made for Florida so far. As always,
help is urgently needed, especially as there's an absolute deluge of
state conventions in March.

Materials:
I've been working on finding more people who are able and willing to do
buttons. Right now one of the plans is for Anna to ship her equipment
and supplies to Tyler. She will only be charging the caucus for the
shipping cost.

I've been working on the Colson mill edition of the button guide and a
little bit on San Luis Peak, the initial version of our online resource
kit. Connected to both of these has been work on button sets to
document in the button guide and have available for download in the
resource kit. I had hoped to have Colson Mill completed by now, but
it's run behind schedule.

I've reworked the catalog of button messages to use less paper when
printed so that it can still be stapled with a heavy duty stapler when
printed two-sided.

I have created illustrations of various pieces of equipment that are
documented in Colson Mill, with three more to go.

I've found problems with three columns of items in the allbuttons file:
My Inkscape session was damaging some graphics and this affected 25mm
and 32mm LPRC template. I believe it is all fixed now. In the process
of chasing the damage down I discovered that at some point that I had
been using a logo revision that was superseded in 2019 for the template.
I'm about 2/3 of the way through. More recently I've discovered that
the outreach square template has a showstopper level problem with its
template that only shows up once it's been saved as a PDF. Nearly 300
squares are affected, and I'm hoping I can get away with postponing work
on this until after Colson Mill is finalized.

If anyone wants to see the current test version of Colson mill, it can
be found here, sans the button catalog: [STAND BY FOR URL]

Addendum/modification of materials report:

http://stuff.radicalcaucus.org/2023/ColsonMill/Colson_Mill_Test_5.pdf

INCLUDES button message catalog.

Also, if the board does not object I will be releasing Colson Mill to
the public domain.

And what's the meeting id???

I'm trying to use the one in the notice (on the web site). Is there a
different one posted separately via some other channel?

Addendum to Bylaws report for December 17 meeting:

I was able to get into Discord Saturday night and view the #bylaws section of our Discord which apparently was already created by someone - thank you!  So far, I fail to see how the Discord provides any advantage over email in terms of organizing our Bylaws committee discussion.  In fact, because the comments posted there don't seem to have subject lines, less so.

I did receive an answer from one Committee member to my message Saturday night so I'm hopeful that my email is working again.

Unless someone with more Discord experience than I can show me how it is an improvement over email I will move forward with organizing our Bylaws committee discussion through email and zoom meetings starting in January,  2024.

I received an additional Bylaws proposal this morning, which I have forwarded to the committee.

[That is the end of my addendum - subsequent discussion by the Board revealed that it is possible to thread our discussions within the #bylaws section in a way that might be helpful to our committee deliberations between Zoom meetings.  I will send a message out to all Bylaws committee members asking if they wish to use Discord, and, if all members agree, I will attempt to organize our threads on Discord proposal by proposal.  However, I don't want to have to follow and organize committee discussion going on in two electronic forums.]
