We met last night, and I am putting this on the list for any potential amendments or discussion prior to asking for sponsors:

Section 1.01             COMMITTEES

 

1)     Committee Appointments

 

These committees have special appointment procedures as follows:

Five (5) members, including up to two (2) non-LNC members

LNC - Each cycle strive to keep two (2) members of past Awards Committee

Ballot Access

Seven (7) Party members, no less than three (3) of which shall be LNC members; plus up to five (5) non-voting advisory members with topic expertise

LNC members selected by LNC using approval voting, non-LNC members selected by the LNC Chair; non-voting advisory members selected by the LNC Chair on the recommendation of the Ballot Access Coordinator

Three (3) LNC members and four (4) non-LNC members of the LP

LNC members elected by the LNC; non-LNC members appointed by the LNC Chair based on recommendations from the LNC members of the committee

Convention Oversight

Seven (7) members, with a minimum of four (4) LNC members, plus a minimum of two (2) non-LNC members who are recommended by the Convention Oversight Committee.  The Secretary is an ex-officio non-voting member.

2)     Committee Terms of Office

 

With the exception of the Convention Oversight Committee and Ballot Access Committee, the terms of office of all project managers, committee chairs, and committee members shall expire with the administration that appoints them, or when their successors are chosen, whichever occurs first.  The term of office for the Convention Oversight Committee shall expire ninety (90) days following the close of the convention. The term of office for the Ballot Access Committee shall expire upon the presentation of the report described in Section 2.02(10).

 

3)  Subordinate Committees


With the exception of the Advertising & Publication Review Committee, Audit Committee, and Employment Policy and Compensation Committee, committees created by this Policy Manual may appoint subordinate committees to delegate specific tasks provided that their decisions are ratified by, and become the work product of, the delegating committee.

I like this! It's uncomplicated and should help committees get more work done by expanding their volunteer teams, in a way that is still accountable to each committee and to the LNC.

On a related but separate note, and this may or may not need to be codified in the PM or elsewhere, we will want our committees to keep and file meeting minutes so as to enable the LNC and Staff to maintain awareness of who is populating subordinate committees and what they're working on.

Perfect!  I will start a separate thread on that topic with what is required so far and brainstorm on what we may wish to add (or not) in a separate proposal.

Hopefully this language leaves it under the purview of committee members what they name their subordinate committees. Some volunteers might prefer to join a "special operations taskforce," while others may like the sound of a "subordinate committee" if that's what floats their boat. I for one look forward to seeing what clever new acronyms are created.
