I am making the following proposal regarding the ongoing Libertarian Party petition drive in Arkansas.
The Libertarian Party of Arkansas (LPAR) has started a 10,000 valid signature petition drive to return the LPAR to the 2024 ballot in Arkansas. As of now, a paid petition drive has not started, but LPAR Chair Michael Pakko has told me that some people are already gathering volunteer signatures.
The LNC fundraised off my volunteer petitioning for a week for the Libertarian Party of Alabama in January 2022, and I propose doing the same now with Arkansas.
My current plan is to drive to Hot Springs, AR on Friday, April 21. I plan to speak at the LPAR Convention in Hot Springs on Saturday, April 22, to rally LPAR members to put forth their best effort for volunteer petitioning for this petition drive. The LPAR has until February 2024 to gather the 10,000 valid signatures (the 90 days petitioning window no longer applies).
I plan to remain in Arkansas and volunteer petition through Thursday, April 27. I need to drive back to Illinois on Friday, April 28.
This is an opportunity for the LNC to raise funds for ballot access with an email fundraiser asking people to pledge a certain amount of money for every signature I gather while in Arkansas.
But, I do have a couple conditions.
First, I want all receipts from this, less expenses incurred, to be restricted to future ballot access expenditures.
Second, I will pay for my transportation and meal expenses, but I will want my hotel expense to be reimbursed by the LNC. I won’t splurge in that regard, but I do have a morning habit of getting on a treadmill, and I will want to stay somewhere at which I can do that.
Even if no funds were raised, the net cost of my sigs would almost certainly be less than $2 per signature to the LNC, a genuine bargain these days.
LPAR Chair Michael Pakko is aware of my current plans.
...
Attend LPAR Convention on Saturday, April 22 & speak to the attendees, urging each of them to commit to at least 500 gross signatures in the petition drive. Doubt I will get that pledge from very many, but I will spend time at the convention talking to people and trying to get them to get charged up for the petition drive.
I will petition as much as I can from Saturday, April 22 through Thursday, April 27.
I will drive back to Illinois on Friday, April 28, as I have to be here for an event on Saturday, April 29.
I ask that the LNC pay for my hotel expense, not to exceed $1,500 total, for seven nights in Arkansas. I will endeavor to spend less, but I just want to make sure that my hotel is covered.
If this is turned into a fundraiser, as Alabama was, much more than the hotel expense can be raised.
