Hi everyone,

There are some (mostly ridiculous) rumors spreading on social media that the rally might be in violation of FEC rules.

In addition to having an attorney prepare the paperwork for us and having his reassurance, I called and spoke directly with an attorney at the FEC. I explained the following things to him, very bluntly:

I am the chair of the national Libertarian Party. Nick Brana is the chair of the national Peoples Party. We are holding a large anti war event that both of our parties are sponsoring & promoting. In order to start taking donations and not mess with the party's budgets or have the parties take any money directly, we opened a separate 501c4 organization in our individual capacities.

The Libertarian Party has pledged to donate $1500 towards the event but has not yet, because some members were worried about FEC coordination. As of now, the 501c4 and the event are not associated with any candidates, no current candidates are speaking at the event, and we are not tied to any specific ballot measures or donating to anything of that nature.

Is the party ok to donate to the 501c4?

He explained that yes, we can donate, and the national party can spend money for any legal purpose. I asked if any of our activities with the event would be considered coordination. He said no, we can donate, we can tell others to donate and talk about it however we want.
