Hi, folks-

I was a lucky winner of a Zigduino from a recent contest over at
Dangerous Prototypes, so first of all, I would like to thank Logos for
their generous support!

Now, what to do with it?

As it turns out, I have been designing a building automation system
for a local non-profit community center. I have already incorporated
several ATMega328-based controllers all linked together with XBee
Series 2 radios, running in API mode. (Guided by R. Faludi's book on
wireless sensor networking). Then along came the contest!

If I want to configure my Zigduino to get onto this network and talk
to the other XBees, what is the best way to get started? Naturally, I
should RTFM, but which FM to read first?

Can someone succinctly summarize the general process steps for me?

While no stranger to Arduinos and real-time control hardware of all
kinds, I am a bit new to the ZigBee world.

Just as a point of interest, talking strictly about operating the
Zigduino in ZigBee mode, what can I do with a Zigduino that I can't do
with a regular Arduino and an XBee series 2 radio?

Looking forward to your assistance. Many thanks!

Zigduno with the Contiki OS supports the 6LoWpan protocol which is arguably more general
and more powerful and far more open than ZigBee.

Others will need to advise you on how to run ZigBee protocol on Zigduino.

Worst case: sell the Zigduino to somebody. ;)

Daniel,

You need to use Atmel's BitCLoud library. First thing to know is that
it does not work with the Arduino IDE, because it is closed source and
neither the Arduino folks nor Atmel will budge. As a result, I haven't
spent a huge amount of time on it, but I have put together a hardware
config file for it
(http://www.logos-electro.com/libraries/zigduino/board_Zigduino.xml)
that you can use with the megaRF build of BitCloud.

Please tell me how it goes with getting it to work with XBees.
