Getting nullpointerexception when Java Spring MVC project launched from HSPC Sandbox

When I try running the Spring MVC for Provider starter project through the sandbox, I am getting a NullPointerException when it tries to create the heightObservations Collection. Has anyone had any luck using this project recently? The only fields that I have modified are in the application.yml file I put our app's clientId and clientSecret based on what the sandbox provided. I also removed the snapshot on the hspc-java-client project in the pom.
