The RATS repeater system includes several redundancies to ensure
system availability during severe weather conditions such as this
weekend's ice storm.
- Automatic diesel generator backup
- Failover dual-network LTE circuit for DMR and remote system control
Significant
ice accumulation Sunday and windy weather Monday will cause widespread
loss of electrical power and may disrupt normal communications across
central Virginia.
AREDN Users: No limitations. If our primary Internet circuit goes down, inbound tunnels (connecting to W4RAT) will be unavailable. Outbound tunnels (from W4RAT) will continue operating with significantly throttled throughput. No impacts to W4RAT-MIDL RF.
Our
everyday repeater operating guidelines remain in effect during this
storm, including requirements for a valid FCC license and proper station
identification. You can find our repeater rules at
https://www.rats.net/systems/rules
To report a problem with a club system contact our Technical Committee,

Note that due to preparation and expected impacts from the winter
storm, replies and further updates about RATS system status may be
delayed.
