Hello Pirates and Happy "Go Tigers" Friday!!

It's a fantastic time to be a Detroit sports fan, celebrating the success of the Lions and the Tigers! Even more importantly, it's always a great time to be a Pirate. The overwhelming support our community, Pirate Nation, showed last Friday fills us with immense gratitude and appreciation.

Thank you to everyone who came out to the parade, the tailgate, and the game. The energy, unity, and pride on display were truly remarkable and a powerful testament to our community.

A special thank you goes out to the PCHS Student Government, along with their advisors, Mr. Bayash and Ms. Beaver, for their work in making Saturday night’s dance a huge success! Our students clearly loved the chance to come together under the stars at Pirate Stadium to dance, hang out, dress up, and just be kids for a few memorable hours.

Earlier this week, nine of our students visited the State Bar of Michigan building to explore the We the People showcase, hosted by The Michigan Center for Civic Education. This program offers one of the finest, most robust pathways for meaningful and engaged civic learning.

The highlight of We the People is the Simulated Congressional Hearings. Students work in thematic units, researching and collaborating on important Constitutional questions. They then testify as a panel before a group of civic leaders, demonstrating deep knowledge and civic engagement.

In an effort to help protect Michigan’s youth and prevent firearm-related unintentional injuries, we as a school system are required to inform our school community about new Michigan Compiled Laws (MCL) 28.429, Section 9 of 1927 PA 372 which requires firearm owners to securely store firearms wherever minors are present or likely to be present. Please see the attached resource that provides information relating to this notice, along with links to the laws that are designed to assist parents, guardians and gun owners to comply with the new secure storage requirements.

We are hosting another home football game this evening at Pirate Stadium as our Pirates take on the Lincoln Railsplitters at 7 p.m., which should be another beautiful evening to spend with our community as we cheer on our Pirates together.

Although the calendar shows us in the month of October, summer continues to hang on as the weekend tempts will remain in the mid-80's and although I am not personally complaining, I am looking to forward to transitioning from cutting the grass to raking the leaves, which should happen in the next few weeks. Whether you plan on spending time this weekend on the boat, visiting a cider mill, cutting the grass or attending a college football game, we hope everyone has a fantastic weekend and as always, GO PIRATES!! 🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️
