Dear Pathfinder Families:

We are seeing some trends in our students and their care of the chromebooks.  Please help us in sending the same messages to our students.  We do not want our families to have fines imposed but more importantly, we need students to have these learning tools ready to go and in working order to learn.

Types of Trending Student Damage:

1.  Putting pencil lead or pencils in the ports to see the smoke come out:  This damages the logic board which is a $200 repair.

2.  Peeling off the cover in between the keys:  This exposes the logic board and allows moisture in to cause a short.

3.  Picking at keys and removing the keys:  Keys often can't be snapped back in and then the entire keyboard needs to be replaced.

4.  Screens are being damaged: This can be caused by leaving items in the Chromebook, students punching the screens or walking around holding the screen.

We will continue to express our expectations to students and are hopeful you will communicate the same message.  We understand that there is a level of learning that must occur for our students at this level with proper care.  The type of damage we are seeing is intentional and not normal wear.

Thank you for your support!

Dear Pathfinder Families:

I hope this email finds you well.  This email is to bring back your attention to the matter with the chromebooks.  We have discovered that this particular damage is a result of a TikTok trend that students are viewing.  Schools have had to evacuate due to the smoke and fire hazard.  HERE is a video of what could happen when sticking lead, staples, paper clips or other metal objects in the charging port.

Please speak to your student if you have not.  This could start a fire in your home or in our school.  It could also damage your student's Chromebook or logic board, leading to a charge up to $200.

Thank you!
