Hello Pirate Families,

I hope this email finds our PIrate families enjoying the beautiful summer we have been experiencing, especially during this holiday week in which we celebrate our nation's birthday, along with all of the freedoms we are blessed with. Although I know many are on vacation this week, I would like to take a minute to share some bittersweet news with our community with the announcement that PCS Athletic Director/Community Education Director, Brian Wardlow  officially announced his retirement this morning, effective August 30, 2024 with the email below that was sent to his entire coaching staff:

Good Afternoon Pirate Coaches,

It is with bittersweet emotions that I am informing you all of my retirement from  Athletic Director/Community Ed. Director starting August 30th, 2024.

As many of you know, I became eligible for retirement in March of 2024.  My intent was to see our athletes and coaches through the end of the Spring 2024 season and work cooperatively with the district to create a plan that would put our student-athletes and coaches in the best position to experience a seamless transition.

The details of the transition were decided upon late last week and finalized this morning.  The district will be putting up a job posting for a new Athletic Director by the end of this week.  They are hoping to have some great candidates apply and have that position filled by August 1st.  I will be staying on until August 30th to work side-by-side with the new AD to ensure a smooth transition.  Many of the details regarding the Fall and Winter seasons have already been taken care of.

I want to thank all of you for your hard work, energy, passion, care, and patience as we worked together to support our student-athletes and give them every opportunity to follow their ambitions and passions.  Being an Athletic Director comes with its fair share of challenges, and I am so proud of our Pirate Athletics team for always sticking together, supporting one another and always putting our student-athletes first.

It has truly been an honor to work with all of you and serve the Pinckney Community.

Brian

We are so appreciative of the years of service, dedication and love that Brian has given our students, coaches, athletes and community over the years, which started back in his teens as he worked for our communication education department and then as a 3rd grade teacher at Farley HIl Elementary. As Brian shared, we will be posting for a new AD within the week, which will be a stand alone position as we are currently exploring a variety of options with our community education program as we will once again use this change/challenge as an opportunity to reflect, innovate and improve.

For the interim, Brian will continue leading both departments, with the hope of hiring a new AD by early August to allow time to have him help with the transition until August 30.

Have a great 4th of July and we will keep our community updated as we proceed in finding a new athletic director to lead and serve our students, program and community.

GO PIRATES!!
