Hello Pirate Families and Happy "Welcome Back Winter" Friday🥶!"
If you have spent a majority of your life here in Michigan, you have come to know that the phrase "March Madness" does not only apply to college basketball, but also to the crazy range of weather seasons we can experience in a matter of days, if not hours. It was so awesome starting our week seeing so many of our students and community members embracing the almost summer-like temperatures by spending quality time outside on the trails, riding bikes or just taking a walk in the neighborhood. And then we got a stark reminder this morning that winter has not yet left us and sadly, is planning on sticking around for the near future.
But yet, there is a light at the end of the tunnel as we are just two weeks away from spring break and equally exciting is that today marks the end of our 3rd quarter, which means we are 3/4 the way through the school year!! The month of March also provides us the opportunity to celebrate our ongoing commitment to Literacy as we launched what has now become one of our most celebrated events with our One District, One Book initiative that engages our entire preK-5 school communities and families in reading one dedicated book together, which I am excited to share is Legends of Lotus Island. I want to thank our Literacy Coach, Laura Allen, along with the many teachers, staff members and PCHS student leaders who have helped plan, organize and prepare for this exciting event. Thank you and GO PIRATES!! 🏴☠️

Today at PCHS, we hosted 21 potential new Pirates as our guests spent the day shadowing student leaders, experiencing our classes, lunches and the amazing staff who will help teach, mentor, support, coach and lead them for the next four years. This is a great opportunity for students who are attending schools outside of PCS to see and feel what makes being a Pirate so unique and special! ♥️🖤
Next week, our PCHS Student Government will be hosting our annual UMatter Week, which is also being supported by our PCHS PTO. UMatter Week is designed to promote a positive school environment by focusing on mental health awareness and the importance of peer support. You can learn more about it here: https://defeatthelabel.com/umatter/ In preparation of next week, Student Government representatives were hard at work today prepping the stairwell in the high school commons that represents every student with a heart. The highlight of the week will occur on Thursday as we welcome Jeff Olsen in to share the Do It For Daniel documentary in recognition of suicide awareness. I have met Jeff personally and the personal story he will share is both powerful and inspiring and we are very fortunate to have him share it with our Pirates. 🏴☠️🖤🏴☠️♥️

Although St. Patrick's Day is not officially until next Tuesday, March 17, the Village of Pinckney will be hosting their Annual St. Patrick's Day Parade tomorrow, March 14 at 12pm in the Village Square, so don't forget to wear your green! ☘️🍀
Our community education department is ready to begin registering our Pirate soccer players of tomorrow as the Pirate Soccer Club aims to develop soccer-specific skills to our preschool through 2nd graders, along with promoting teamwork while inspiring confidence. If interested, please see the flyer below for more info.
As we wrap this week up, I want to remind everyone that our PCHS ACT2 Theater Company will be hosting their second weekend of Little Shop of Horrors performances, with shows at 7:30pm tonight and tomorrow, with a matinee showing at 2pm on Sunday. This group of Pirates have worked so hard over the past couple of months and would love to have your support as you no doubt will be entertained.
