Hello Pirate Family and Happy "May Day" Friday!!

Can it really be May 1st? To be honest, I can't even begin to wrap my mind around the fact that we only have five (YES, FIVE!!) weeks of school left with our 2026 Seniors finishing in only three weeks! Although this can definitely bring some excitement knowing the end is approaching, it can also begin causing some anxiety as there is still a lot we are looking to get accomplished with our students before they leave us for the summer.

Along with the work we aim to accomplish in the next five weeks, we are also beginning to recognize our students, especially our seniors. This past Wednesday, we had an amazing evening at Lakelands Golf Club celebrating our top 25 Senior Scholars who in turn honored their special guests, recognizing them as being an influential person in their journey. The speeches our students shared filled the room with laughter, tears, pride and hope as our future is bright with these young leaders paving the way! GO PIRATES!!

We want to thank many of our local first responders who spent yesterday morning with our PCHS students to keep them safe before prom season. Our talented student actors effectively represented the mock accident scene, creating an accurate portrayal of the horror, sorrow and guilt involved when poor choices are made, such as driving while texting or under the influence, feeling the negative impact this will have on their friends and family. We hope this emotional experience prompts our students to make safe and healthy choices as they enter a very exciting time of their young lives.

We are excited to share that Farley Hill Elementary has been named a Michigan EGLE (Environment, Great Lakes ,and Energy) Evergreen School. This state-level honor recognizes schools that complete 20 or more environmental activities, such as recycling, energy saving, and environmental protection, and highlights our commitment to sustainability and stewardship. Farley Hill is one of three Livingston County schools to achieve the highest EGLE level of Evergreen status.
A special thank-you to the Kids Conservation Club, led by Ms. Uridge’s first-grade class, who spearheaded April’s GO GREEN efforts. This year, Farley Hill students sponsored river otters at Potter Park Zoo, pledged over 100 Earth Hours, cleaned up the playground, and explored their schoolyard habitat. The Conservation Club, started 16 years ago by retired teacher Mrs. Trumpey, continues to promote environmental stewardship and Earth Month Pride. April's Matey Meeting also included learning about renewable energy sources and students created pinwheel models of wind turbines. Farley Hill celebrated Earth Day with a Science Alive presentation where we learned about some animal friends from around the world. Way to go Farley Hill Pirates!! 🏴‍☠️🌳

Finally, our Pathfinder 8th graders are returning today from spending the week experiencing firsthand much of the history they have learned in the classroom throughout the year. Having been on this trip many times myself, I can honestly say that what they saw, heard and experienced, along with the time spent with their peers, will stay with them for a lifetime. I also want to thank Principal Lori Sandula, who is retiring at the conclusion of this school year. This particular trip marks her final Washington D.C. trip with our 8th graders, and we appreciate her leadership and passion, both as an 8th grade History teacher and administrator in supporting this valuable extended learning opportunity for our students! GO PIRATES!! 🏴‍☠️🇺🇸🏴‍☠️🇺🇸

We look forward to enjoying each of the final 24 days we have left with your children as we are honored to be given the gift of nurting their growth as a Pinckney Pirate. Thank you for your support and as always, GO PIRATES!! 🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️
