Hello Pirate Family and Happy "Baby It's Cold Outside Friday"!!

Although we are still a couple weeks before the official first day of winter, it definitely feels like we are in the midst of our annual January freeze as it is sadly looking like we may have a loooong and coooold few months ahead of us if this is any indication of what our winter will look like. 🥶🥶👎👎 We know from past experience that we have had to cancel school due to the extreme cold temperatures and as a reminder, we use the standard of a consistent -20 degree feel-like temperature, which factors in the windchill. As I have shared in prior communications, this can be a challenging decision to make given that wind speed can fluctuate and is often not consistent from community to community given a variety of factors. Here in Livingston County, we utilize the most accurate meteorological equipment we have available to us, which is located at the Livingston County airport in Howell when trying to gauge wind speeds and temps, along with any information we can gather from our own personal phones/apps. I have a bad feeling that this is the first of several polar vortexes we may be experiencing this winter given the predictions for a colder than normal winter, so it may be a good idea to buy that special someone a heated vest or socks this holiday season as I think they will come in handy!

One of my favorite parts of the holiday season here in PCS is the opportunity to attend the music concerts that are available, which started this past week with our choir students at Pathfinder and the high school singing many of our holiday favorites on Wednesday evening. There are several more opportunities coming up in the next couple of weeks to catch our talented students and have provided the dates below.

December 10 @ 7pm - Pathfinder (7/8) & HS Band and Orchestra Holiday Extravaganza Concert
December 11 @ 7pm - Pathfinder 6th grade Band & Orchestra Holiday Concert
December 17 @ 6:30pm - Farley Hill Elementary Holiday Concert
December 18 @ 6:30pm - Country Elementary Holiday Concert

During this past summer, two of our current PCHS Seniors, Prince Hayes and Carson Michaels, came across a metal sign in the north foyer that recognized the opening of our new Pinckney Community High School back in 1999, but what magically caught their attention was a message on the sign stating a time capsule was sealed within the wall and should be opened in 2024 as part of a 25 year anniversary ceremony. Although we unfortunately missed the 25 year anniversary date, Prince and Carson had the honor this morning in helping reveal the time capsule. After having to seek the help of our welding teacher, Mr. Smith as the metal capsule was soldered shut, the students revealed a variety of artifacts which included, old newspapers, a 1999 PCHS yearbook, school newspapers, books, VHS tapes, magazines and a Star Wars action figure! It was so fun watching our students, along with PCHS teachers Ms. Rose and Mr. Hermann (who were teaching at PCHS in 1999) look through the artifacts with a strong sense of curiosity and nostalgia. Our plan will now be to create a historical display within the Pirate Union to showcase these items and discussions are being had about the Class of 2026 creating another time capsule that can be opened by a future generation of Pirates!

If you are looking for something to do this evening while trying to stay warm, we invite you to come cheer on our Boys Varsity Basketball team as they take on our neighbors to the east, the Whitmore Lake Trojans with tip-off happening at 7pm. This game will also be broadcast live on WHMI. LET'S GO PIRATES!!

We hope everyone has a great weekend and gets a little extra sleep as I am sure many are dragging a bit today after staying up late cheering our Lions on to victory! Thanks as always for your continued support as we appreciate you! GO PIRATES!!
