Hello Pirate Families and Happy "First Day of Spring" Friday!!

Yes!!! It is now officially spring and although we may still experience some winter like days, there is just something special about knowing that we have made it through another Michigan winter and that there is so much to look forward to in the upcoming months ahead, starting with spring break, which will start next Friday afternoon as we will end the week with a half-day of school.

We are extremely proud and excited to announce that both Country and Navigator Elementary have been named a Green Shield School by The Positivity Project for the 2025-26 school year. Green Shield Schools are recognized for exemplifying character and relationships-driven systems among staff, students, and families – to cultivate lifelong learning and a positive school culture. Country and Navigator Schools participated in an application process driven by six rigorous categories including: Community Impact, Classroom Implementation, Schoolwide Implementation, Student Engagement, Family Engagement, and Leadership.

This accomplishment is significant as only 26 schools in the country earned this designation last year and the fact that we have two schools is simply amazing and a testament to our district's commitment to supporting the healthy growth and character of our students and staff. Great job and GO PIRATES!!

On Tuesday, our PCHS Leadership Class was recognized at the Livingston County United Way Spirit of the Community event for being the 2025 Youth Organization of the Year! The impact they have had on the PCHS school community has been instrumental in nurturing the culture as they plan weekly lessons around the Positivity Project Characteristics, along with acting as our Link Crew student mentors to support our Freshman class in helping them feel connected, empowered and prepared. During the holiday season, these students raised over $13,000 in just six weeks to help provide individualized presents to over 400 underprivileged students. Our kids are such great examples of service and leadership that should provide us with a tremendous amount of hope for the future. Congratulations and GO PIRATES!! 🏴‍☠️♥️🏴‍☠️🖤

I would like to thank retired Ishpeming teacher, football coach and parent, Jeff Olson for spending the morning with our PCHS students as he shared the story of his son Daniel and his battle with anxiety and depression, which ultimately took his life. His message focused on our ability and willingness to talk openly about our struggles without fear of being judged or dismissed, while also looking to get help from our parents, teachers, counselors or a professional therapist/counselor or doctor. I am so proud of how intently our students listened and am hopeful that his message this morning will help any student who may be struggling with a mental illness seek the necessary support as we are here for you!!

We are always proud to share the great students and events occurring in our LINK program, with this month's highlights featuring Dalton Craddock, a student whose positive attitude and strong sense of kindness has been such a nice addition to our program.

Just a couple of reminders before heading into the weekend that 3rd quarter report cards will be viewable in MiStar on Monday, March 23. Additionally, the Livingston County Parent Summit will be held at Parker Middle School tomorrow in Howell that will provide valuable resources and support for our Livingston County parents as a dynamic group of presenters will be sharing valuable information through interactive workshops and TED talk style presentations. Thank you for your continued support and engagement in the lives of our Pirates as we appreciate you! Have a fantastic weekend and as always, GO PIRATES!! 🏴‍☠️🏴‍☠️
